Sophie approached Holly at her workbench in the basement, still trailing the tether of stretchy flesh joining her to Phoebe, who was just about to descend the stairs herself, retracting her side of the tether as she went.
"Hey Holly," Sophie said to get Holly's attention.
"Oh!" Holly was surprised as she looked up from her tinkering. "You got separated?"
Sophie held up the tether of flesh and shook her head.
Holly folded her upper arms and put her lower hands on her hips. "Gotcha, but that's totally workable. You want to laser it off, then?"
Sophie nodded. "Yup."
Phoebe had finally joined them, having finally decided to let her desire for revenge simmer down...for now at least. Better to get them separated first so she wouldn't potentially be caught in her own revenge scheme by being fused to the very recipient of her vengeance.
Holly grabbed a device off the wall that looked like a digital camera, and in fact had been built inside the chassis of one, but as she set it up on a tripod and slapped a lithium-ion battery pack into it, the device's true nature as a powerful laser projector would soon become obvious. Using the camera chassis's viewfinder to set a focal point for the beam, Holly directed Sophie and Phoebe where to hold the flesh-seam so the laser would do its work effectively.
"Now if you can melt without pain, this shouldn't hurt either," Holly reassured them. "I can stop if it does, though."
"Let's do it," Sophie said flatly.
Holly nodded and pressed what used to be the "record" button but was now the button to activate the laser beam. It focused right on the seam between Sophie and Phoebe, and as it cut through, Holly gestured for the pair to lift the seam higher so the laser would slice through it vertically. With a dull snap, the two were finally free! Each side of the former flesh tether retracted back into their hips, where it had been stretched from.
"Done!" Holly cheered once the laser beam was deactivated with another press of the "record" button.
"Nice!" Sophie smiled, giving a fist pump in celebration. She reached over the Holly and wrapped her arms around her to hug her in celebration, her upper torso following shortly after, Holly returning the hug with all four arms.
"Great job, Holly! you rock, girl!" Phoebe agreed, stretching herself out and enjoying the freedom of having her body to herself again. Sophie also had unwrapped from Holly and was enjoying having some kind of personal space, though it did seem that she was having some trouble retracting fully.
Phoebe finally retracted herself, and suddenly Sophie found herself retracting as well, not sure why it had suddenly gotten easier.
Phoebe concentrated, trying to morph her hand to test that her powers were still working as expected, and with some effort, managed to form her hand into a large rubbery mallet. Behind her, Sophie yelped as her own hand suddenly morphed into a mallet shape as well, completely unbidden. Sophie took one glance at Phoebe and understood immediately what was happening.
"Uh Phoebe?" she called.
Phoebe slinked her neck out to turn and look at Sophie behind her, and as she did, Sophie felt her own neck elongate on its own. Phoebe gasped, also now understanding.
"I think this is a problem." Sophie offered as a tremendous understatement.
