The Shortsword Interceptor, was designed over time as a gradual upgrade to the old Blade Class Interceptors of the Kushan. While the Blade had proven an excellent interceptor, the technology used in them were simply growing too antiquated too quickly to justify the constant retrofitting. A new fighter needed to be developed and so Kiith LiirHra were approached to do so. LiirHra had been the ones to develop the Blade back on Kharak along with the rest of the Kushan's strike fighter craft save for the Naabal designed Thunderbolt Attack Bomber. LiirHra went back to the drawing board for the Blade, pulling its original schematics from the databanks of the old Mothership's PDA. From there they began the development of the sleek and streamlined Interceptor that would become the Shortsword.

The Shortsword eclipses the Blade across the board, boasting more firepower, speed, maneuverability, and armor. The Shortsword is typically deployed in squadrons of five. The efficiency of the Shortsword compared to the antiquated Blade, granted the Shortsword a considerably long lifespan, remaining the Hiigaran fighter of choice well into the Vaygr War and beyond.
