Description

Vesbytes are a kind of tree-nesting Terabyte, which feed by raising a kind of symbiotic fungus inside a communal nest. Some of the castes of this Terabyte greatly resemble the corresponding caste of other species, such as the water-holder or carrier caste, but it also has distinct castes not seen in other species. The gatherer-caste are winged fliers which range far and wide in order to forage for organic matter to feed to the colony's fungus, and the soldier caste are flying individuals which have a pointed, venomous stinger on the end of their snout. When the nest is disturbed, large swarms of soldiers will be deployed to sting the intruder and repel them. Another unique caste is the tunneller, a caste which exists to bore holes and tunnels in order to build and extend the nest.
