Description
This was an experiment I did while in the USA. This is three images blended together... high speed splash at the back... long exposure in the middle and high speed f/g image. I call this technique "shutter blending".Related content

Superb shot my friend. I really love the whiteness of that splash and how it contrasts with the sky. I am not to sure how much I like the long exposure mixed in there, I have never thought of something like that before; an interesting idea. The tones and color here leave me speechless. Great capture.

Hey Walt
You asked if I'm using Auto Gain... I assume you mean auto ISO.
No, I never let the camera control that.
The Splash image is a composite of 3 images... two shot wiht a fast shutter speed, and then the one of the water in middle shot with a long shutter duration (by using a 10 stop ND filter).
I blended them in Photoshop.
I hope this helps

Similar, I use auto iso in fast light changing situations, but it's not what I meant. The D300 has Auto Gain, you set the number of images you want to take and enter them into AG. It divides the EV by the number of images you want to take and get one perfectly exposed image. You can use up to 9 or 10 shots. An example of Auto gain would be my image. Here the camera is rotated slightly between shots. You can really use your imagination to create different type of photos. [link]

Hey Redinov
Thanks for your note about Autogain. I can't recall ever reading anything about that in my D700 manual.
I guess I would never try to nail that type of shot in the camera, I would typically take a set of perfectly exposed individual images and then blend them in post.
Interesting.
thanks
Brent

That can't be done. You have to divide the EV by the number of shots. There's a book about the Nikon D300 by 👍: 0 ⏩: 0
They also have a book about their (Nikon) creative lighting system. It includes the SB800,900, 600 and the 200. They're available through Amazon. Look it up, it won't hurt. The 700 and the 300 are about the same camera except for the FX.

Fascinating technique - I'll have to try it sometime. Btw, the splash in the background would make a spectacular picture by itself, and the "shutter blending" just adds to it. Nice work

nice try and effect.
It would fit perfectly to photomanipulation category i think.
the blending of the 3 shots is well done.
it has a quite "unreal" look. nice job!

Spectacular & very clever combination of captures. Much more effective than HDR. Yes I said that. I'm not a real fan of HDR. I love this combination. Wish I was able to achieve something like this! I'm in awe of your talent & your art!
