Here's Jai's merman form. He wants to keep the human parts of him at all cost: hence the shirt. All the mermaids only wear jewelry. They've tried to convince him to drop the shirt, but he won't. He doesn't want to be a merman.

I like the idea that the tail is the frame for their character. The human picture frames are boring, but if you're a mermaid/merman, there's some interest in the picture frame.
