Description
[link]The motion sickness past, Iβll be the first to stand.
Behind that weathered door, I thought it would be safest.
My head is dizzy now, I thought weβd overcome.
i've heard my art consists of depth-less, scratchy, unfinished sketches that show my lack of commitment and heart.
but if this doesn't prove that idea wrong, along with every drawing i ever make, from scrap to original concept art to completely colored fanart, i don't know what will...
i pour my heart into my drawings, no matter what the subject is. and i happen to find inspiration in good story-telling.
Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase (c) Rick Riordan
ps. sorry for the rant. you guys don't need to hear me whining.

Burdge, the people who tell you you don't have talent are really just jealous because they can't draw this well!
I've never commented on your work before, but I must tell you that it's all amazing! I wish I could draw this well! Ignore the trolls that talk smack about your amazing drawings! You have serious talent, girl! Not only are your fan comics and art either witty or sweet (or both), but your original work is also pretty much beyond compare!
Don't want to take my word for it, look at all the fans you have! When the day comes that the trolls of the world get what they deserve, I'm behind you 100% in the fight!
To the trolls: When hate is the only thing you love, your world must be really empty, huh?
Also, this is a very good drawing in itself. Keep up the good work, Burdge-bug!
With all due respect,
Sakura Sunset

well i must say, to anyone who has said your art is depth-less, they don't know jack Sh!t. true your line work and scetches are rougher than professional artist's finished work, but to the extent that we can see how you pour your heart into what you draw is simply astounding. I personally have read the series' you are most fond of drawing and can say no matter what image you have on your paper, it matches perfectly with whatever emotions the characters would feel, from what i have read. You have proven your worth as an artist more times over than anyone can contest, they simply haven't truly looked at your heart through your art.

I don't believe your sketches are any of those things! They may be more raw than what people are generally used to, but i find that ADDS emotion to them. I love all of your drawings. I find all of them amazing!

I actually really like the sketchy quality of your pieces. They don't show a lack of commitment and heart - its just a different style of creating. Don't let anyone tell you that your art is sub-par due to your STYLE. That is completely absurd, and purposely hurtful. You don't need to make a piece of art "polished" for it to be considered "good". The emotion in your art comes through spectacularly without the aid of perfect lines, or visual depth, or the use of an eraser, or whatever it is that some people find your art lacking. Your art doesn't even need color to enhance it! The sketches speak for themselves! You say what needs to be said with EXPRESSION - not words. I find that wondrous. I am infinitely jealous of your talent when it comes to wielding that pencil, and so succinctly putting to paper a picture that speaks volumes on its own, relying on and requiring nothing. Your artwork is beautiful, Brigid, just the way it is.

I'd just like to say that your drawings - even the 'depth-less, scratchy, unfinished' ones - have more emotion and character than most works I've ever seen. You manage to capture expressions perfectly; something I aspire to do. (Also helps that you draw Harry Potter a lot XD )
Keep it up!!

Who ever says your drawings aren't full of heart... well, I don't what they're talking about.
Every single one of your drawings make my heart ache. They're all so full of emotion.
Really, those people are nuts. I try so hard to put as much depth and feeling into my drawings as you do.
Just thought I'd let you know.

yeah, you art has loads of depth. you are also very consistent with their facial features and distinction, and that is hard to do, especially because this is all coming from you head mostly-- aside from what description were given in the book. Plus, you have an amazing ability to capture emotion, and while many people can do that, it just feels so much more natural on you people. Over all you art is a refreshing bite out of life.

That so-called scratchiness is called gesture and it is something that many artists spend their lives searching for.. that expressiveness and looseness. Your art is so popular because you have a natural propensity for this gestural drawing and you can see the emotion so well. Art is art because it is subjective but don't try and change your style- its amazing. And bring on the "scratchy" and "unfinished" i say! I think it has so much more depth!

Don't listen to whatever they say. Whoever 'they' are.
"I think something is art when it is created with intentionβserious intention. Even crazy intention. And I think something is beautiful if it reveals something important about what it means to be alive."
^That's a quote from a recent book I read. See in this sketch, for example, yeah, its not a full on Picasso masterpiece, but it doesn't need to be. Look at their faces, at their body language. You can feel the emotion, you can feel every last bit of pain that is there. That's art. That's beautiful.

What! I LOVE your "scratchy" style! To me it makes the drawing look so much more real, and they all seem to contain more emotion that way to me! I also find it so much more refreashing than the constantly altered work you can find on deviantart. You, by far, are my favorite artsit to see pop up in my art message box!

Wow...it stumps me how anyone can say something like that, because from where I'm standing, all of the pieces in your folder--rough sketches or not--have blown me away! If you ask me, it sounds like a classic case of haters be hatin'. They throw words around and act like jerks, probably because they wish they had an ounce of your talent. Anyone who talks that way is a Cro-Magnon Philistine who has no idea what they're talking about. They limit themselves to an idea of what art should be, all the while talking as if they know what art is. Art is not always about perfection...it can be, of course, but art is not limited to idealism. It can also be about concepts and ideas, emotions, playing around with colors...all sorts of things! Rough or not, your sketches are perfect just the way they are, as sketches...because sometimes, the best art is rough and quick. Your talent shines through the roughness. This piece, and all your other pieces too, are absolutely beautiful, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Anyone that says that your work lacks commitment or heart because it's rough obviously isn't looking at the same picture I am...this piece is absolutely oozing emotion and heart. (On that note, you have me swooning for Percy Jackson right now, seriously. Holy crap.) If you go on to finish these pieces, I think they would be just as lovely as this, but I say keep this one as well...it's wonderful the way it is.

I love this, and all your drawings. Especially the kiss at the volcano-I love the way your sketches look, almost more than the finished product (No offense) I just mean to say that they have so much spirit to them, and I adore seeing the process because it can help me be a better drawer and helps me remember that people love these stories as much as I do. You're awesome.

GracefulDisaster [2011-06-25 07:00:35 +0000 UTC]
Don't let anyone tell you that. Even if your sketches are scratchy and/or unfinished, the rest is absolutely untrue, and whoever says that needs to be reminded that the definition of sketch is "simple hasty drawing, or rough plan," which means that your sketches are exactly what they should be. It doesn't need to be perfect unless you're doing a lineart. And there is SO much heart and emotion in your drawings. In the characters' faces, in their poses, in their lines; you can see it anytime you look at it, the characters are feeling a certain way, and they express it through their actions--whether they're flirting or mad at each other or despairing, and you know what? Those lines came from a pencil in YOUR hand. You bring those to life.
And just because you don't decide to finish something doesn't mean that you lack commitment; it means you might not have planned to finish it. Sometimes a character just wants to speak, and I go to parks and sketch the skaters; doesn't mean I'm going to go home and ink and color the kids at the park. Why should I? I'm doing it for practice and fun. Don't ever let anyone tell you you're having fun wrong.
