Description
I'm pretty new to DeviantArt, and people have been very kind so far.So, here's my cel-shading tutorial. Really basic, it's my first one and probably not very good/a little confusing, but I really tried to make sense, I swear. If you have any questions about something in the tutorial, please put them in the comments or message me and I'll try to clarify!
If you'd like to see a bigger version of the finished image from this tutorial, here it is -->
Hopefully the tutorial is useful to somebody!
Thanks,
-Jen
Edit: Thank you so much for the DD! I'm honored. I would have never expected to get one on my old FMA artwork, haha. It's been over a year since I made this tutorial, but I hope you fine people still find it to be helpful.

Why do you say it's harder with a mouse?I don't have a tablet and it's easy as 1 2 3 to paint with a mouse. o.O

Oh, it's not terribly hard to paint with a mouse! But it's a whole lot easier and more precise with a tablet, at least in my experience. c:

I expect it would! I'm not terribly familiar with SAI, but I know that layers and a lot of other program functions work similar to Photoshop. c:

This tutorial is my lifeline. I am so horrible at shading of any kind it's not even funny, but I've been using the advice here and a lot of my stuff is turning out a lot better. I don't even use Photoshop or a tablet (both of which I really need to get, it would make things so much easier!) and the intructions still work. Thank you so much!!

My first tablet (the one I made this tutorial with) was a Graphire4. It was given to me as a gift, but I'm pretty sure it cost under $100. The one I currently work with is an Intuos4, and it cost a little over $300. c:
