Description

The sun was setting over the spires of Terra, filling the sky with colors of deep oranges which in turn painted across the plumes of clouds from below. Soon enough the stars were shining down along with a bright full moon. It was a gorgeous scenery as Mira walked along the bridges through the shopping district with her closest friend, and boss, Artison Reverts. It had been some time since the two of them had spent an evening with one another, that didn’t involve exploring the multi-verse with the artifact, The Ring.

The mysterious magical item was entrusted to the young Pyreheart Wolf and was the reason the two companions had the chance to meet. Mira was not from Terra or this dimension. She was forced to leave her primitive home dimension behind to escape from being persecuted. Her only crime was thinking differently and wanting to learn more than she was allowed to. One thing had led to another, and Mira had a life in the Spires.

Since then, it was her and the Revert siblings. Continuing to make a name for themselves through success and fame, while Mira made her way through talent and uniqueness of her own. She lives with the siblings, but she has also made her own friends. Finding the right people to befriend was a challenge of its own. Being the only one of her kind, she stood out in all the wrong ways. At least that is how the nobility of The Spires made her feel until she had met Tannis Aether. A musician with talents, unlike anyone in the upper level of Terra, the two had gotten along quickly. Mira began spending time away from the penthouse she shared with the Reverts. Tannis took great interest in her singing when her group needed someone to fill in, but it was also nice for Mira to have time to focus on something other than work related to Artison. On days off, she would be with Tannis. After and sometimes even before work and explorations she would be away with Tannis and her group.

As much as Mira did enjoy expressing herself through the music of one of the well-known idol musicians of Terra, she couldn’t help but feel at times something else drove her to make some distance. Somedays Mira would try and convince herself it wasn’t the true reason, but she intended to shield her heart. As months turned to years, Mira was finding it harder and harder to resist her attraction to her best friend. From his dashing good looks that made women all around turn their heads to get second glances at him, to the kind and gentle soul who always had a cheerful presence that could make anyone smile along with him. But as much as she has tried to show him her true feelings, he never seemed to truly…understand. His genuine naivete, inability to notice her advances. As much as she tried, she knew deep down he meant no harm by it because he was still the same caring friend he always had been. And for a time, she gave up.

Until Tannis began to notice this change in Mira’s mood, a clear sign of heartbreak. Earlier in the evening, while Artison was away at the markets Mira found both Tannis and Loretta in the kitchen. Seeming as if they had been waiting for her.

“Oh, hello Tannis…was there a rehearsal I forgot about?” Mira asked as she walked over to the breakfast table and took a seat across from them.

“No, Mira I came by to speak with Loretta about…well, you” The white Pyreheart Wolf looked from Mira to Loretta. Giving her head a slight nod to her with a smile on her face. Loretta turned to Mira with the same soft smile. It did have Mira curious how long the two had been here before speaking with one another.

“Mira, Tannis here says you haven’t really been…yourself lately. And…I have to agree with her” Loretta’s voice was soft but the smile was slowly fading away, turning to a look of concern and understanding.

Mira just sat there looking between the two wolves as her foot anxiously tapped on the ground, she had hoped it wouldn’t draw any attention. To Mira it hadn’t seemed like anything to be worried about, she had her good and bad days when struggling with her emotions. Some days she would be enjoying her time with her new friend group, while on other days she would use this as a means of escape. Though she was content with her explorations and adventures with her friend along with assisting in the many projects he created for various clients across the kingdom, every time she was near this charming man she found herself in the same heart wrenching loop that continued in a never-ending cycle. And it was starting to be noticed.

“I do not, underst-” Mira began to say but was quickly interrupted by Tannis.

“Mira please, pardon the interruption but I believe I already know what it is you are about to say. That you are fine, there is no need to worry about you…and I'm not buying it for a second” The wolfess’s ears lowered slightly as she finished. There was a moment of silence between the women, Mira only looked between the two of them as she swallowed.

“I’ve been noticing the amount of time you’ve been spending away from the penthouse when you’re not working with Artison” Loretta said. “I’m already aware of your feelings towards him Mira”. When Loretta mentions this Mira shifts in her seat, her long tail twitching nervously under her legs.

“Is this why you’ve seemed…rather down recently?” Tannis asked, leaning onto the table a bit as she noticed Mira’s subtle nervous movements. Mira only looked at her crossed arms that rested on the table. She was hesitant to answer them at first, knowing Loretta already knew of these feelings. At one point in time, she had even given Mira insight into her little brother’s reaction to her own and other’s advances directed at him. Always going unnoticed by him.

“I…suppose” Mira replied softly, her eyes did not meet the other women’s for another brief silence until Tannis spoke up again.

“Mira…I can tell this is getting harder for you. Falling in love with someone that, you also work for and live with. I don’t mind you spending time with me and the others, you are always welcome but…Tiz hard for me as well to see such a dear friend of mine return looking sadder each visit”. The Pyreheart’s wholesome words kept Mira’s attention, glancing between the both of them. Until her eyesight became blurry with tears forming, her hand reached up to wipe them away before any leaked down her cheeks when she blinked.

    “I do apologize fo-”

“You have nothing to apologize for, Mira” Loretta pitched in. Her hand reached over and landed gently on her forearm as Mira attempted to keep her cheeks dry. “Believe me, I know how Arty is. And I know that you know, he genuinely cares for you”

Mira gave a nod in response as she sniffled and cleared her eyes, clearing her throat a bit while she collected herself in front of them. Loretta moved her hand away once she had, giving her another reassuring smile.

“Mira, you’ve been good to my brother and also to me. For once, in a long time, I feel he is safe when you are with him. It means more to me than you know, so that is why I feel you could use my advice on this matter”. At that Mira just let out a sigh as her arms stayed crossed against the table, her shoulders slumped as she looked down once again.

“...What else could be done?” Mira asked as she kept her gaze away from them. Both of the wolves just looked at one another with the same smirk on their faces, then looked back to the sulking Shimashabi. At this Loretta leaned herself over the table, catching Mira’s attention enough for her to lift her head and meet her gaze. When Loretta was leaned over enough to lock eyes with Mira, she made sure she had her full attention.

“Tell him. That you love him” Loretta said with a jokingly stern tone.

The scene was enough to get a snicker out of Tannis, who covered her lips with her fingers to stifle her giggles. Mira leaned herself up to sit up straight as Loretta did the same, her eyes darting between the two as if more confused than surprised. At her reaction, Tannis smiles at her.

“Mira, we know things were different in your home dimension. You have to understand that here in Terra, the women have the choice of who their mate will be. Artison grew up with these ethics of our society and with his certain…personality, if you continue like this you won't get his attention”.

To Mira, it did make sense, but the idea of it only worried her more. It was the complete opposite back home where the males would choose their ideal partner and child bearer. It was all they believed the women were put on Kavas for, population. It was their reasoning to always keep women from wandering out from the settlements, with or without a male escort. Mira herself grew up with these opposing ethics and it was what kept her from doing just that. Her subtle advances were her only means to try and woo Artison to understand what she wanted, only for it to be brushed off respectfully.

But Mira was also exhausted from trying to outrun these emotions that kept her in turmoil. After the three of them exchanged more reassuring words, Mira found the perfect opportunity to try Loretta’s advice. Moments later, Artison walked through the penthouse entrance with a bag full of various scrapped parts. The red wolf set his supplies down to greet them all upon his return home, his metal prosthetic leg clanking against the wooden floor as he entered. Seeing his smile always has Mira return it, despite her emotions still high from the girl talk moments ago.

“Mira, tiz good to have you back home,” he said as he walked towards the table the women sat around. “Jorgen’s stall had unbeatable prices for scraps that I can use for the gauntlets that were commissioned!” To anyone else, this talk would bore them immediately. But it was something Mira had come to understand along with his older sister, even assisting in certain ways.

“He also had cables for the grappling feature?...that they specifically requested?” Mira asked as she looked at him. Who was still beaming with delight as she asked.

“Yes! At this rate, it will be completed a week ahead of schedule!” He went to grab the straps of the bag, but that is when Loretta intervened. No one had even noticed the wolfess get up from her seat and reach for the bag before he could.

“Loretta?” Artison looked at his sister, clearly confused. “I need those for the project”

Despite his questioning, Loretta still held the bag up and away from his reach when he attempted to take it from her.

“Artison, why don’t you take a break-” As she was about to continue, her brother’s mouth opened to protest, the same protest he would give nearly every time she gave this request. “-An ACTUAL break Arty, no client commissions, do NOT touch The Ring or a single tool!”

The siblings stared at one another for a moment, Artison with a look of confusion and Loretta keeping to her stern look that matched her exclamation.

“...But I jus-”

“Went to the markets, I know, for more supplies relating to WORK”. His sister set the bag on the counter nearby, and as she did her eyes glanced to Mira. A look that clearly said, at least to Mira, This is your chance, take it!

Her muscles tensed in her arms and legs as she could feel her cheeks burning from nervousness, at that moment Loretta handed and oppurtunity to her on a silver platter she froze. Her heart started racing in her chest at the thought of what could happen next. As Artison was about to make one last attempt to convince Loretta to return his newly purchased parts, Mira rose to her feet.

“Arty, how about we go and…get something to eat at Mortimer’s? Before it gets dark” She said. His attention turned to his assistant, his ears lifting from their half-lowered position at her proposal. As he did, Mira caught the thumbs-up Loretta gave her when Artison’s back was turned. It was happening very suddenly, Mira hadn’t even thought it all the way through and could only hope he would agree. “I am certain this will count as a break to Loretta”

At this, Artison turned his head back towards his sister who gave a nod in agreement. Mira had expected the same response he would give Loretta each time she did this repeated song and dance to force a break onto him. As much as she understood his reasons, she still believed what was best for his health. Only for him to sulk and whine in disappointment. But to Mira’s surprise, and even Loretta’s, Artison kept his smile and nodded to Mira.

“That…sounds nice,” He said “I’ve been wanting to share the discoveries I made on the last exploration you had missed out on. You…haven’t been home when I am for the past week”.

Even though he spoke with a smile, Mira couldn’t help but feel a slight sting of guilt. Knowing he had no intention of this, it still stuck her in the gut.

Mira opened a portal to the skywalks that led straight to the pair’s favorite restaurant in the spires.
