C'est une composition très surprenante et d'une très grande originalité. La multiplication des masques contribue à donner à cette création toute sa beauté. Ils ont tous des attitudes différentes, mais toutes dans le registre gai ou amusé. Tous sont figés dans ces sourires crispés. Mais, la vue de la jeune femme, aux larmes apparentes, crée un contraste frappant. Il contribue à donner à cette création toute sa beauté avec la visualisation de la constatation la plus simple que derrière la grimace drôle peut se cacher un sentiment beaucoup plus triste. Et par extension, on peut penser à tous les faux-culs qui vous passent la main dans le dos, sourire par-devant, coup de poignard par-derrière. Bref, la comédie humaine.

Brilliant. I especially love how her face looks as if could very well be another of these masks... something about the way it looks near her hairline, notably. The masks look similar enough that they could represent different emotional states of one woman, or different women... wonderful uncertainty here.

She reminds me of Mombi the Witch from the Return to Oz movie, who could swap heads with her victims and kept a large collection of them in her keep. I'm aware there's a Mombi in the Oz Books as well, but besides The Wizard of Oz, I haven't read them.
