The Magellan Class Dropship is a variant of the SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule specially modified for the United States Space Force's Infantry Division. what differs the Magellan from a standard Dragon is the removal of the docking port cover to reduce the weight needed for ascent, a retractable rung ladder located underneath the hatch, and a small weapons rack located inside. designed for the orbital insertion of space marines, the first 3 Magellan Dropships were assigned to serve aboard the Space Force's first warships, the Destiny, the Retribution, and the Wings Of Light. The Magellans are transported inside the cargo/docking bays of the 3 warships, secured atop the docking port via large electromagnet. upon entering the gravitational pull of a celestial body, the bay doors are opened and the magnet is deactivated, dropping the craft into the atmosphere. after deploying it's parachutes and landing safely, the hatch is opened and the troops and their weapons are deployed. Upon mission completion, the Magellan's SuperDraco thrusters are fired, sending the dropship back into orbit. If a planet with a high gravitational pull prevents a successful launch, the Magellan would launch halfway into the atmosphere where the tethered electromagnet would be lowered from the warship, into the atmosphere and catching the dropship in mid-air where it would be winched back into the cargo bay.
