Description A bit rough I know.
The story of Sodom and Gomorra has been kind of heavy on my mind lately. I know it gets poked around at a lot as one of the passages used in the typical bible-thumper's condemnation of homosexuals, but contrary to popular belief, homosexuality was not the reason the cities were destroyed. (The citizens were threatening to rape the newcomers that Lot was sheltering in his house.) It draws parallels to the story of Noah in a way. This was a group of people so badly off, so full of malice, that God saw only destruction in their future, and did away with them. It's especially tragic because just before the destruction, God speaks to Abraham and tells him what he plans to do. God knows the people of Sodom and Gomorrah will refuse to change their ways, he knows that the threat of destruction from God is of no consequence to them, and yet he listens when Abraham pleas with him to let Lot search for some shred of hope. If he can find even 10 good people in the entire city of Sodom, disaster will be averted. Lot warns the city, no one listens. He warns his neighbors, no one listens. He warns his sons-in-law, and they laugh at him. The night before the event, two angels sleep in Lot's house and the townspeople threaten Lot to hand them over so they can have their way with them. Lot escapes with his two daughters and his wife, but even his wife turns back and is lost.
He tried to warn them all. In the end, only his family followed him, and even they didn't all make it out.

It just amazes me how God was willing to give everybody a chance in spite of everything because the number kept going lower until it was to 10.

I like this...and your comments as well.  I love Biblical art.  This is one of the heavier subjects but its an important lesson to know, that there are consequences when morality is lost to depravity.

It's funny that you should mention this story is similar to the story of Noah, recently I've been thinking that the Bible is essentially telling the same story over and over again; the story of Jesus. The theme of "one man saves the community/world" is told and retold again in the stories of Abraham, Noah, Lot, Moses etc...and I find a lot of  (not-so-coincidental) parallels between the stories. But anyway... You mentioned that it was rough, does that mean you plan to work on it further, or...? Either way, It a pretty cool piece.

Thank you for the comments and insights. As far as continuing this goes. It's unlikely. This was more of a quickly thrown down image, done in around 10 minutes.
