Description
Hi Guys!This weekend I taught a masterclass .
These where the pages where I drew what we were talking about, it might be a bit wierd to understand, since this was just random things I was drawing to aid my teaching, even though I have written notes besides them so you guys can more or less understand them. it may not aid you alot since this was basically me drawing and helping my students out in the concrete subjects they were asking for.
well, anyways, hope you enjoy

Love it!
Although the anatomy at the start is very basic and actually is wrong. It is often missunderstood in the comic industry, so my teacher told me, but apparently those shadows have a purpose. The are defined by the muscles, serratus anterior, that are dribbled over the ribs there. Though they are less pronounced, their shape is also different. You might want to look into that.
Either way, this has been endlessly helpfull.

This mini tutorial was a guide, to help beginners. not a school anatomy class.
The main goal was to give them proportions and shapes of the comic human body so they can go from there into their own style.
You may have also noticed how the waist of the girls is too small and lot of things that are typical in comics, and we all know they are unrealistic or "wrong" as you say, but we all love it because that's the magic of drawing and art!

I totally agree with you and I do agree that the unrealistic anatomy makes the comics the way they are, but these characters (or parts of them) look cool and good because they are -in their entirety- exaggerated. When there are small things that are enlarged it will look strange and out of order. And that's what I tried to explain in my previous comment. Anatomically the arm and ribs/abs/etc looked great, because compared to eachother they had good proportions and they were shaped well. The 'abs' (serratus anterior) at the side, under the arm, looked, on the contrary, not at all what they are supposed to look like. This is just an example and if you think I'm whining about small things... Well... I am lol. But I just thought I'd add my 2 cents there. If it's not appreciated, I'll keep these things with me in the future.

I appreciate the comment, don't get me wrong, I was just trying to explain the point you missed, and that is, all those were sketches, fast drawn, to try to touch all the basics and help them get started.
And for the serratus, every artist draw that particular part his own way, like hands, face or anything else; also those are fast drawn sketches not a final clean lineart.
That's said, take a look at any drawing of the greatest comics artists and tell them they draw too many muscles in the forearm, or the serratus is wrong xD

Lol. I think I'll pass on that one.
Anyways, thanks for taking my point in appreciation.
