The Hand of The First Order, or simply Thrawn's Empire, was a militarized state that emerged in the Unknown Regions. The Hand of the First Order descended from the fallen Galactic Empire. As the shadow nation grew, it colonized large swathes of the Unknown Regions, annexing the territory that served a crucial role in their plan to eventually seize the galaxy at large. The Hand of The First Order is ruled by a Head State from the large world of New Centrella and all matters are governed by both Military & Ruling Councils. The state is also sponsored and secretly ruled by the Netherworld Empire, the very same overlords who had also ruled the Galactic Empire from the shadows.

The Contingency, a secret plan crafted by the Emperor before his demise, ensured the Empire's collapse while setting into motion its rebirth as a Sith Empire. After the Empire was defeated by the New Republic, former Imperial officers, nobles, and technologists fled into the galaxy's Unknown Regions, where they began a movement to regain power that morphed into the First Order. Whereas the New Republic endeavored to create a democratic and demilitarized galaxy, the First Order followed the militaristic and fascist principles of the Old Empire. Though its ranks initially consisted of former Imperial personnel, a shift would change the course of the Order's history and would cause the birth of two rival First Orders.

Prior to his fall from power at the hands of Gallius Rax, Interim Emperor Sate Pestage refuses to follow the will of his fallen Sith Master and made the decision of naming an official successor to the Imperial Throne before ensuring that the Imperial Decree would be delivered to his chosen successor.

The person he had chosen to succeed him as Head of State of the Fallen Empire is, ironically, the one individual whom he has full faith in: Chiss Grand Admiral Thrawn.

At the time, Thrawn had established the Empire of the Hand while serving the Netherworld from the shadows, undermining Imperial efforts to find a means of expanding in the Netherworld's home universe through a Dimensional Gate.

Once he had received the Imperial Decree, Thrawn immediately emerges out of no where and calling upon the loyalty of Imperial forces, succeeds in deposing the Dark Side Master Snoke before he could succeed in re-establishing the influence of the Sith Order while eliminating those who are a potential threat to the true ideals of the Empire.

Upon ascending the throne of Supreme Commander, Thrawn forges a True First Order by promoting the Old Guard to positions of power and purge the Imperials of those whom he views as disloyal or who had allowed the Empire to decline under the tenure of Gallius Rax. Brendol Hux's son Armitage was among those who were ruthlessly murdered and General Pryde chose to follow Thrawn than to follow the will of the Emperor, whose survival was revealed by Thrawn yet explains the true reasons behind the Empire's rapid fall.

Absorbing Carnor Jax's Crimson Empire, the Greater Maldrod, the Eriadu Authority, Zero Command and the Pentastar Alignment into his growing empire, Thrawn soon recruits the services of the Dark Lady of the Sith Lumiya, who would create an army of Shadows who not only serve as the eyes and ears for the regme but are also assassins who would eliminate anyone who poses a threat to Thrawn's plans.

Thrawn expanded the military to the point that it dwarfs those of Snoke's First Order and his fleet was 7 times bigger than the latter, matching those of the New Republic Military who refuse to demilitarize.

Thrawn's Hand of The First Order wages a successful war against Snoke's First Order during the latter's War with the Resistance and this led to the existence of Thrawn's Empire being exposed by Rey.

Ironically enough, Thrawn's forces joins the Crusade against the Final Order since to have Darth Sidious back in power would mean the death of his people in the Chiss Ascendancy and even after the latter's final death, Thrawn is able to persuade his New Republic foes to join forces when the Yuuzhan Vong takes advantage of the conflict by invading the Alpharus galaxy.
