Description
As usual, the prototype monkeys Vex and Wisp belong to GShepherd17, and Ace and Zoey (my take on Chiro's parents) belong to me...though honestly, there is also a reference to the Swedish Chef from the Muppets, but for the record that started out a happy accident but was improved to show that character on purpose. In this picture, shortly after Zoey found out she was pregnant (with Chiro) but before the wedding happened because of it, she and Ace had some preparing to do for a local Earthling marriage ceremony and all it's customs. Being the "new folks in town", they knew that, despite the decision to invite the entire town of Platinum Coast, Oregon, to a beach wedding, they had to start making friends if they're to have proper stag and hen parties without rousing suspicion that they are from another planet. In addition to that, there was also the catering and the first dance of the wedding reception to consider... Ace is on a tight budget and grew up with most of his meals served by his uncle's butler, so he ended up signing up for a cooking class and leaving a note with his cooking teacher explaining he'd bring a "therapy monkey" to his first day, expecting Vex to tag along. To his surprise, however, Wisp ended up being the monkey tagging along instead. Vex, meanwhile, ended up taking a dance class with Zoey, who didn't know much about dancing save for the ceremonial routines carved on walls of ancient ruins-- most notably close to the Temple of the Skull not to far from the secret lab of her father, the Alchemist-- and she had originally taught herself to dance that way, much like the Unangax people of Atka Island, and other Native Americans, taught themselves otherwise forgotten dances of their ancestors using old relics and texts. With that comparison in mind, Zoey had a pretty good excuse/cover-story for showing up at a formal dance class-- starting with ballet--wearing what looked, to Earthlings, like a ceremonial Native American dancing dress... something her dance instructor instantly told her off for, much to Vex's annoyance (it was the one thing about this whole ordeal the secret assassin found more annoying then the two humans of their group sleeping together behind her back in the first place).
Long story short, Ace and Zoey had a tough time in their classes, and the monkeys that were to become their future "in-laws" had it even tougher, especially since (according to GShepherd17's drawing "Strange Courtships": www.deviantart.com/gshepherd17… ) the typical approach to mating season in their monkey species is quite the reverse of what their human wards decided to do. To that end, when Ace accidently redefined the term "flaming fondue", Wisp-- knowing it needs to cool down immediately-- accidentally made it worse by literally fanning the flames much to their cooking instructor's annoyance (you can almost hear the Swedish Chef yelling in his odd language here), thus beginning the white monkey's constant shifting between being a lethal chef and being an exceptional one. Vex, meanwhile, had managed to show up in a tutu-- unlike her oddball soon-to-be daughter in-law-- but despite dressing the part she proved even less of a ballerina then Zoey was... it's hard to see in this image, but Vex had to take several breaks after tripping up numerous times, thus is constantly found using the ballet bar as a place to sit down... but the two girls ended up bonding over the fact neither of them ever give up and are willing to keep at it until they can dance properly in time for the wedding; all Ace and Wisp end up bonding over is a good laugh over their epic fail, and how puzzled they both are that causing such a fire didn't get either of them expelled.
