Description ~~~ Uchafu the tyro warrior! Chafu had been playing that in her head the entire day, dreaming of when she became a sentry tyro. Somdey it will happen.. Her thoughts had distracted her from he path that she had forgotten she was going to the waterhole. Instead she took a detour down to the border of the tribes.

Kibanzi skipped along the border, her mom had been off hunting for herbs and she knew that nobody would miss her at camp so she decided to go on a walk. She chased after a little lizard, planning on catching it and eating it. How do lizards taste? We'll just have to find out, she said, grinning mischievously. She pounced, her paws landing on the little reptile. It scrambled out from under her paw, "Darn!"

Chafu halted her sauntering as she heard a noise across the border. She perked her ears and turned her head to the sound. She then caught sight of a cheetah, a small cub. Chafu grinned and fell back into a relaxed stance, hackles falling and tail wagging playfully. She had never met another cub from the tribes before! Excitedly, she trotted down to see the cub. "E-excuse me?"

Kibanzi looked up, a cub was standing right next to her, "Hi there!" she said happily, she had never met a cub that wasn't her sibling or Mchanga, but he was a tyro now anyway. "What's your name," she said in her friendly way, her ears perked up excitedly.

"I'm Uchafu! Kikao cha Uchafu, I live in the crooked tree tribe." Seeing the lizard the cub had been chasing, Chafu lunged toward it pinning it with a paw. she grasped it in her jaws and laid the dead body at the other cubs feet.

Kibanzi looked at Uchafu, "Nicely done," she said. "Should we eat it?" she asked, her mind food oriented as usual. She sniffed the lizard, it smelled funny, not quite like fish and not quite like anything else, "It's weird smelling," she said, wrinkling her nose.

Chafu had never thought about eating lizard before. "I dunno, lets find out!" It was a small morsel, but never the less chafu took a nibble. It was tough, but had a nice flavor. "thats pretty good, you try!"

Kibanzi tore a piece off, chewing cautiously, in case it tasted bad. She swallowed, "Not as good as a zebra or something like that but not to bad," she said. She looked at the cub, "Have you ever met Zakiya?" she asked.

"Zak? Oh he's my best friend! Y'know, i don't wanna brag or nothin', but he snuck me into a battle once. I was surrounded by huuge adult warriors from crowded water's clan, and there were cobras too! Lots of em. Yeah, i lost all my legs and everything. But i got out alive!.. She looked down. "Oh yeah. and my legs grew back" She let out a nervous chuckle.

Kibanzi's eyes grew big with admiration, "Whoa... he did," she said, Mama would never let him do that with me, she thought sadly, frowning a little bit.

"Yep, it was pretty awesome. Next time i can try to come get you so we can watch the battle together!" But then she remembered. Her and this cub may fight in a battle someday.
"Hey, i dont know your name yet!" she meowed suddenly.

Kibanzi smiled, "Yay! Next time you can get me" she said, not even bothering to think of the future. "My name's Kibazni," she said smiling.

"Pretty name!" Chafu chirped. "And hey! i'm not gonna take you into battle with me if youre not ready. How about we go on a little obstacle course?"

Kibanzi nodded excitedly at the older cub, "Oohh that sounds fun," she piped excitedly. She shuffled her paws, "Where is it?" she asked, wondering what Uchafu was thinking.

"Well.." Chafu thought for a second. She knew the island like the top of her muzzle. "I know a good place on the coast o' sunnin' rocks territory where theres some nice tall rocks, wanna do it?" Kibanzi nodded excitedly. "Ok then! follow me!" Chafu darted left followed by an energetic Kibanzi.
By this time the sun had risen to its highest point in the sky, setting the breeze aplomb with spring heat. The two cubs raced to the coast, batting at each others tails and tripping one another. As the air began to smell of sea salt, chafu and kibanzi skidded to a halt, two feet ahead of them, the land dropped, as if sliced off like a piece of meat from a gazelle. Below was a roaring ocean. Chafu looked back at the awestruck cub. "Are you ready f'this!?" She chirruped.

Kibanzi looked down at the roaring ocean, "Are we going down there?" she said, slightly scared but still totally exited. She looked at Uchafu, her eyes big and curious. "You're really fun to hang out with," she purred.

"Heck yeah we're goin' down there! if you can make it, you'll have proven yourself worthy." Chafu purred back, "And thanks, i don't know a lot of other cubs since there isn't any in my tribe." She puffed her chest out with pride. Suddenly she jumped over Kibanzi, "Follow the leader!"
Chafu skidded down a sandy part of the cliff and leapt across to an overhanging rock. "What'r ya waiting for? Lets go!"

Kibanzi carefully put a paw in front of her but she slipped and tumbled down the cliff. She stood up, shook the sand out of her pelt and looked at Chafu, hoping for some praise, at least she landed on her feet. She smiled, "Did I pass?" she asked hopefully, giving Uchafu puppy eyes.

Chafu laughed, "Not yet! We have to make it aaall the way down to the water," Kibanzi leaned over the overhang down to the edge of the ocean, a fall that would break the legs of a fully grown cheetah. Sand drifted down to the water below as chafu pointed out the route. "First we jump onto that ridge right there, run across it till we get to that sandy slope, slide down that, then hop across the rocks at the bottom and onto the beach at edge of the water." She looked over at her younger friend. "Don't worry! If you fall, just grab onto a rock and i will come get you!"

Kibanzi took a deep breath and jumped, landing on the ridge with a 'thud'. She looked up at Uchafu, wondering what to do next. She ran until she reached the slope and jumped downwards. She slid on her belly all the way down to the rocks witch she scrambled across clumsily and sat on the beach, breathing heavily.

Chafu was surprised, she didn't even have time to catch up to the cub before Kibanzi had reached the beach. "W-wow! Like, were you even thinking?! That was so fast!" Chafu hopped down to her friend. "And i thought you couldn't make it for a second." The waves licked at the two cheetahs' feet.

Kibanzi beamed, "Well I did," she said proudly, puffing out her chest. She stuck her paw in the water, "Oohh, that's super cold!" she piped, hopping backwards away from the waves. She tried to stick her paw in again, splashing it happily with her paw. Kibanzi splashed some of the water at Chafu, giggling.

Chafu tried to dodge, but the cold water hit her pelt, "Oh no you don't!" She yelped diving into the water, giggling, paws first, splashing everything in her diameter, including Kibanzi. "Hah!"

Kibanzi laughed, splashing about in the surf. She jumped after Chafu, laughing and splashing. She jumped up at her, falling on top of her, "Oh, sorry Uchafu," she said stepping off.

Kibanzi fell on Uchafu causing her to collapse into the water. "Sorry? Haha its gonna take more than that to keep me down!" Chafu chirruped, tackling Kibanzi into the water nibbling at her scruff.

Kibanzi giggled, diving into the cold water, trying to bring Chafu with her. She stuck her head out of the water, "I need ta' take my sister and brother and Auntie Ajali and mommy here," she said smiling broadly.

"Make sure not to tell them i was here, i'd get in trouble!" Chafu meowed, flopping down into the water beside Kibanzi.

Kibanzi frowned, "Why would you get in trouble?" she asked, still to young to really comprehend the idea of borders, and considering that she was half tribe, borders didn't seem to matter to her.

Chafu twitched uncomfortably when Kibanzi asked the question. It was almost unnerving to see how much Kibanzi mirrored Uchafu, after all Chafu hadn't absorbed the concept of borders til she was 6 moons old and had been just as accepting of foreign cheetahs. Why's tribe origin so important? I hope not ev'ry cub'll be like us... Chafu snapped out of her thoughts when she remembered the question. "Well, I'm from the crooked tree tribe and you're from the tribe of sunnin' rocks, ummm, and i guess since we smell differ'ntly we ain't allowed to play together!" Chafu said giggling at the ridiculous rule.

Kibanzi snorted, "That's a stupid rule! What if two cheetahs wanted to be friends but they had to fight in a battle," she said, batting at the water playfully. She sighed, "The rules are silly but if we don't follow them we could get in trouble," she said sadly.

"Yeah it is a stupid rule, I thought adults were s'posed to be smart!" They both giggled. "And i have plenty o' friends from other tribes i'm gonna have to fight someday, but that don't stop me from being friends." Chafu chirped batting at her friend's ear. The sun suddenly dimmed above them as the wind picked up, turning the once smooth, scintillating ocean surface into a vapid arena of moguls. Chafu laughed, flopped onto her back, and rode the choppy waves to shore, Kibanzi following on her belly chuckling through the waves. "We aught to get back home soon! looks like its gonna thunder." She said above the breeze.
