Description The play "A streetcar named desire" with the characters Blanche DuBois and Harold "Mitch" Mitchell was written by Tennessee Williams. Feel free to correct me if something is wrong or missing.

Number five from my fanart series "Pairings": Blanche and Mitch from Tennessee Williams play "A streetcar named desire".

When I drew the picture it came out smaller than the paper I had used here. Looking at the finished thing, I thought it looked quite charming to see the borders of the "real" picture and how the colour stepped over them in the process of drawing. ...So I decided not to cut away the white stripes (...with blue spots) but keeping them on the fanart. On deviantart, you can see this "uncut" and a "cut" version in my gallery. The "cut" one has also some spots that bugged me fixed. Visible here:

The rest of the now following text is exactly the same like in the "cut" version:

We had the play as required reading in English ... in my 10th grade, if I remember correctly. From all the books we had to read for school this was and is my very favourite - and it´s in general now a big favourite of mine. Although I havent seen the movie or a performance of it so far. Great characters, great atmosphere, great story.

The first time I heard about the story was not in the English class ... it has been years earlier in the Simpsons episode "A streetcar named Marge"! Springfield stages a musical version of the play in this episode, with Marge in the leading role. Marge probably influenced my picture of Blanche, yes! In that way, that I imagine her with long, darker hair.

SPOILER ABOUT THE STORY

The tender-shy relationship between Mitch and Blanche touches me, not only in that scene I tried to draw here. But their ...love? ... has IMO also something tragical - could they have been a happy married couple? I see problems from Blanches side, her flightiness and affinity for fantasizing. From all the characters in the story, she´s my personal favourite, but would she have made a good wife for dear Mitch? I would have wish them the best, but with doubts.

I´m rather unhappy with the scan - it looks like they are under water, and you see some of my mistakes *siiigh* rather clearly. Nevertheless I like the completed picture too much and it was too much work, so I can´t resist putting it up here.
