Description dA dude (c) dA
Stamp by *ChikitaWolf

EDIT: Wow, I'm gettin' llamas already, lol

EDIT2: Oh, cool-- got front page for 8 hours again xD Thanks everyone!

EDIT3: Um, I apologize if I don't reply to your comment ^^" I'm kinda swamped-- but really, I'm reading them all! Promise

EDIT4: Thank you for all the llamas, points, watches, and favs~!

Will it? Will it stop you?

There are going to be more talented artists out there. That's life. But is that going to stop you?

There are many incredible artists here on dA. Does that mean you can't become one yourself?

Some of us come by talent easily. Some of us have to work a little harder to get it than others.

So?

One thing I've learned while being here on dA is that just because an artist is better than me doesn't mean I suck at what I do. It really doesn't. It just means they're more talented in that area.

Is that going to stop me from doing what I LOVE to do?

I love love love to draw.

I don't do it for the views. I don't do it for the favs. I don't do it to keep watchers.

I do it because I LOVE to do it.

Does that mean I should stop just because there a ton more artists that are better than me at drawing?

Heck, no!

Why should that stop me? That should ENCOURAGE me to get better! It seems as if the term "role models" hasn't been used all that recently these days.

So, yeah. Same with all of you out there that write, draw, edit, etc-- are you going to stop doing what you LOVE to do just because someone happens to be better at it?

I hope not!

As one of my favorite characters in the D.Gray-Man manga lives by: "Keep walking. Never stop."

So don't give up, yeah?

Yes, it does stop me. If you can't do something well enought, then why to do it at all? (Yes, I know the whole "practice makes perfect", but it's rubbish. You can't overcome you own limits)

👍: 0 ⏩: 3

ChikitaWolf In reply to ShadyEyes [2011-07-15 14:07:01 +0000 UTC]

Really? Because I have

I didn't know how to read or write in 1st grade. I sucked at it. Never understood it. Now I'm a book worm. Not to mention a writer myself. My original works sucked. No, seriously SUCKED. I look back on them and shudder.

And yet now-- I've got near 1000 people following one of my fanfictions. And they all seem to be really enjoying it.

I've also recently published an article, and I'm only sixteen.

I think that counts as major improvment

-

Also have a BFF who could never get her anatomy right. She worked hard for a year and a half, and now her chibis and normal sized characters are absolutely adorabe. Yet another example ^^

ShadyEyes In reply to ChikitaWolf [2011-07-15 18:25:28 +0000 UTC]

Then probably You and your friend have talent, I don't.
Peoples divide into two categories - 'Artists' and 'Artisans'. While both of them have to work to make progress and get better, but Artist can put less effort and get much better results than Artisan. Artisan, when with twice much of hard work and effort never gets near Artist level. Artisan also have limit of skill, that can't be surpassed - they can be good, but never be the best.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChikitaWolf In reply to ShadyEyes [2011-07-15 18:27:01 +0000 UTC]

I dunno. I'm sure Artisans can get to the Artist level with hard work. I've always believed that hard work will get you somewhere ^w^ It's like the phrase "The sky is the limit"-- but that's not true anymore, since we've gotten to the moon

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadyEyes In reply to ChikitaWolf [2011-07-15 18:43:55 +0000 UTC]

Maybe, if only their limit is somewhere around Artist level and only then.

Sixteen years of drawing and hard work and I did less progress, than peoples do in two, three years. Doesn't it prove, that there ARE limits?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChikitaWolf In reply to ShadyEyes [2011-07-15 18:45:32 +0000 UTC]

There are only limits when you let there be limits ^^

For some people, it just takes longer, but if its something you love and something you're determined to continue, I'm positive you can become a wonderful artist

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadyEyes In reply to ChikitaWolf [2011-07-15 18:55:21 +0000 UTC]

If I supposed to be wonderful artist, I would be now and love have nothing to do it.
Sometimes it's not enough to yourself best, when others do it better.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChikitaWolf In reply to ShadyEyes [2011-07-15 19:20:59 +0000 UTC]

The reason you would be aspiring to become an artist wouldn't be for only fame would it? Cuz thats the only thing I can think besides loving what you're doing-- and if that's the case, it's gotta be pretty miserable. o.O

And it's kinda hard to say that when you're giving up on it. How do you expect to become an artist if you don't want to become one in the first place or let things stop you from becoming an artist? Life is about getting passed limits-- if you don't get passed them, you're not moving on :/

People do stuff better than me. Big whoop, lol. I'll just try harder!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadyEyes In reply to ChikitaWolf [2011-07-15 19:27:08 +0000 UTC]

If you, even if you try harder and harder, didn't get better, would you say the same thing?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChikitaWolf In reply to ShadyEyes [2011-07-15 19:29:05 +0000 UTC]

Yep-- because progress can be slow. Sometimes progress isn't obvoius, but I have friends who can help me point out to what I've improved if I myself cannot see it

Plus, if I love it so much, I'm loving doing it. If I'm not making progress, but still enjoying it, why stop?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadyEyes In reply to ChikitaWolf [2011-07-15 19:39:30 +0000 UTC]

Why stop? Because if you want to do something, you have to do it good? And if you can't there is no need to do it at all?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChikitaWolf In reply to ShadyEyes [2011-07-15 19:41:32 +0000 UTC]

What? lol. You don't have to do it good to do something you want!

Try, try again~ Don't give up-- that'll get you nowhere! How do you know you can't improve if you don't try?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadyEyes In reply to ChikitaWolf [2011-07-15 20:18:09 +0000 UTC]

I know, that I can't improve, because I tried and tried and didn't make any progress... Easy enough?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChikitaWolf In reply to ShadyEyes [2011-07-15 20:20:42 +0000 UTC]

The reason you feel you can't improve is because you've put that limit on yourself. The only thing stopping you is yourself in the end ^^"

you're not a robot, you can beat yourself if you truely want to. art is diferent to other things. It's something where if you truely love doing it and you use your emotions in it, can realy show who you are, not just what people see you as.
Does it realy matter how good someone is at it, if they love doing it?
Sorry, but to me, it just sounds like you gave up.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Mousen-Heath In reply to ShadyEyes [2011-07-15 09:40:20 +0000 UTC]

I have to disagree. There are no limits.

And with an attitude at that, people never get anywhere. It's more or less just putting up with how crap you are until you get better. Someone who was given art lessons as a young child for years would probably end up being fantastic, due to all the years they studied art when they were younger, but that doesn't mean someone who took up art when they were... fourteen, will be terrible.

The latterly mentioned person might even have more fans because of subject/style, as against actual technique of their drawing. They'd probably end up being rather good in the long run too.

I actually think that your drawing is actually getting pretty good. If I were you I'd keep at it because you've actually got a talent for it. :3 This little sketch: [link] is really lovely. :3 I'm not a drawing expert, but I'm sure with practise and maybe studying some actual people, or finding some drawing guides/books, you could become really great. <3

ShadyEyes In reply to Mousen-Heath [2011-07-15 09:44:15 +0000 UTC]

Oh, but there are limits - 16 years of learning how to draw and I'm not even near level I should be.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mousen-Heath In reply to ShadyEyes [2011-07-15 09:55:26 +0000 UTC]

Sixteen years as in, you are sixteen/something near it now, or sixteen years as in you start at such an age, then you've been learning to draw from there?

Either way, I think you're expecting too much of yourself. And if you give up practising, you'll never know how good you can get. And why should we assume we have limits? If we do actually have limits, the preconceived notion that we have limits might be responsible for that, if anything living like we don't have limits sounds like the better thing to do, regardless of how ignorant it is. Sure alot of my poems are crappy, but some of my prose is getting better, it's certainly a massive about better than it was two years ago when I first started writing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadyEyes In reply to Mousen-Heath [2011-07-15 18:30:18 +0000 UTC]

Sixteen years as sixteen years of drawing - I started at the age of 10 and now I'm 26. And yes, I did some progress by this 16 years, but nowhere the progress peoples did in two, three years. Sometimes is not enough to do the best, because others do it better...

Mousen-Heath In reply to ShadyEyes [2011-07-15 22:45:50 +0000 UTC]

How solidly have you been drawing/researching anatomy? I mean, little things like finding a certain style or finding something that you're interested in drawing can really help. Have you studied from life, or took an art course? Try drawing the people around you or studying the way they move etc, if you haven't already done that. I mean, practise does make perfect, but only if you draw solidly, and have an idea of what you actually need to do to get the effect you want. If you're that p- off about not being able to draw, do something about it! I'm no expert on drawing, but I've picked up a few things. The more practise and dedication you put into your art, the more your going to get out of it. I don't mean like a thirty minute scribble, every week, like trying to draw more than a sketch daily, putting an hour or two aside for drawing most days etc. Most of these people probably did that, but it's doing that solidly, and just ignoring how crap you are until you're good.

I'm still in the 'average but not exceptional' stage with my writing, I've only been at it for two years, I'm fourteen now. But I will get better with time, it's just question of practice.

I just love, when people assume I'm just lazy and didn't do to obvious things... You know, some of us don't have talent and no matter what we try and how hard we work, it won't make much difference for us...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mousen-Heath In reply to ShadyEyes [2011-07-16 10:08:01 +0000 UTC]

I didn't assume you were lazy, I just assumed you had a real life. Most people don't actually have the time to study drawing for hours and hours a day. And the pessimistic attitude isn't going to help matters, quite frankly. I only asked because I could only see anime-styled drawings in your gallery, and Anime likes to eat artist's knowledge of anatomy for breakfast, or so I hear. ;3 And, sure, some people can have a 'knack' for things, a so called talent for finding the right words in books (All it is, is intelligence, reading books as a kid and a good vocabulary.) or have a knack for being able to draw certain things. More often than not, it's either what's around them or they've got an almost photographic memory. You could show my friend a drawing, and she could replicate it perfectly, she just /knew/ where all the lines went, but give her something of her own to draw and she was terrible.

Half the 'talent' in this world, is faked, is earned through hours of blood sweat and tears or is really only a 'knack'.

It's quite obvious, statistically to say that you will get better with practise. Any old fool can see that. And you're not the only 'waaah I'm never going to get better' emo-type artist out there. There's thousands of them. And the harder you try the more of a difference it will make, whether you realize it or not.

If I'd given up six months ago when the improvement on my writing slowed down, I'd have never gotten a chance to use crazy words like 'haggersnash' or 'jalopy' or 'shmaltzy'.

And if you really can't draw (I don't see why you shouldn't be able to to) then fine, it's not the freaking end of the world. Take up acting, or singing, dancing, writing anything! You're twenty-six for pete's sake, not fourty! Your life isn't over yet. So do something else, if drawing makes you baww this much. I don't think you should give up, because you do have talent. But hell, if you moved on to acting and was actually positive for a change, something good might come of it. That and there'd be a distinct lack of moaning around here. x3;

Hah, I just realized. I'm the one trying to give you advice, and you're twelve years older than me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadyEyes In reply to Mousen-Heath [2011-07-16 10:27:27 +0000 UTC]

Oh, you do assume I'm lazy and I'm not improving, because of not working hard enough. Your whole 'speech' can be shortened to 'Stop being lazy and complaining and start to work'... But I do worked, really, really hard in fact, but still without visible improvement.

And you aren't giving me advices, because I already tried all that, you are just making me feel worse, than I already feel. Because of you I deleted all from my dA gallery. Thanks a lot!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mousen-Heath In reply to ShadyEyes [2011-07-16 11:35:21 +0000 UTC]

No, my speech can be shortened to 'be positive and stop being an idiot'. Please, I never said you were lazy. I just meant like working until you got carpel tunnel in your wrist, or blisters from holding a pencil for six hours straight.

Personally, I find that hard to believe. If you had sketches in your old gallery of, say, real people, or just vague sketches trying to work out human anatomy or something, I might have found it easier to believe.

Please, you didn't delete it because of a fourteen year-old girl with wheat, milk and chemical intolerances and social anxiety. You deleted it because you wanted to, and because you're acting like an attention seeking twelve year old. As against a twenty-six year old, who could easily be married and have kids by now. I told you, you had talent, and that I thought that little sketch of the Gaia avatar was really lovely. How does that translate as 'delete your whole gallery, bitch!'
