Description
Location: Zion National Park, The Narrows, Utah.Equipment: Canon 1dS | 17-40L | Hoya Pro1 CP | Cable Release
Specifications: 17-40 at 21mm -- ISO100 -- 8 seconds @ F18
This is my personal favorite image from my recent trip to the Southwest.
The Narrows in Zion are truly phenomenal. After wading knee-deep in the beautiful Virgin River, we came upon this majestic location. Colorfully-carved 2,000 ft. sandstone walls surround me as I stand in disbelief. The canyon walls radiate in vibrant, warm hues and I was in position to capture a glorious scene.
Read This: For a superb sense of scale, you can actually see my Dad towards the very end of the walls in the middle portion of the image. He's the tiny black figure. HERE is the 100% crop.
Fact:
National Geographic's Adventure Magazine rated hiking the Virgin River Narrows in Zion #5 in its list of America's best 100 adventures.
Post-Processing:
Capture Sharpening using the TLR Sharpening Toolkit.
Color adjustments were very minor here. Digital Velvia +1.5 using a script which can be found HERE (It really IS that vibrant, ask anybody who has been there)
Dodge/Burn for more accurate dynamic range. Curves & Levels for contrast adjustments.
I have entered this photo in 's Nature Photo Competition.
Enjoy.

Drew, I used only a Hoya DMC Pro1 Circular Polrizer.
This is an 8 second exposure - I have a Vari-ND, so this exposure could have went even longer, much longer. Thanks for your interest.
