Description
Based on a classic period Mayan vessel.
This vessel was used for chocolate.
It depicts a wide variety of "way", the Mayan word for spirit animal companions.
There are musicians, dancers, a death god, a raptor with a snake around its neck, and jaguars. Two of the "way" seem to be masks held by the people; a fire mask and a stone mask.
There are seemingly two words for jaguar, or two species. Most commonly jaguar is balam, but in this it is hix ("x" sounds like "sh")

Certainly one of my favorite classic period vessels.
