Description Still learning things about markers every time I work. Such as a saturation limit. Especially if you work with Prismacolor, the black ink is a bit different from every other ink. At some point, if you layer it too much, it won't be absorbed by the paper any more and you get streaks like you see here. from anywhere other than straight on, the light doesnt catch it, but it's nicely visible here in the scan. Things like that drive me bananna sandwich.

Anyways, a 90's classic created by the beast known as Sam Kieth. I always wanted to take a crack at him, so this was a cool one to work on.

Prismacolor cool grey and white paint on vellum bristol board.

Your blending and gradations are just so smooth, I get kind of lost just staring at all the blending.

I also have the ink-streaking-oversaturation problem, and it's nearly always with black. O.o

Do you prefer vellum bristol to work on with markers, over other kinds of paper?

ChristopherStevens In reply to silvertales [2012-06-14 23:48:48 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. Vellum is nice. It soaks the ink up better than the smooth I think and I seem to be able to blend better with it. It's also a lot easier to paint on.

that's really amazing, i always liked how free Keith was with his illustration. almost like he just drew crazy shapes and perspectives, then made the story fit in afterwards. beautiful marker work!

Thanks. You may be right. His layouts were definitely more about the visual than it was storytelling. Gave his books a really unique feel though.

I was wandering if it differed much from the Mtv series (story-wise). I assume the art in the comic is amazing, I'm gonna have to check them out.

Simply awesome remember watching the Maxx as a kid on Mtv.

Too bad you got that nasty mess on his thigh though, drives my crazy when stuff like that happens. Maybe photoshop it away or smooth it out?

either way its still a kick-ass piece.
I find your way of using markers one of the best and most inspiring out there.
