Brian came to the party planned by the sorority. The warnings he heard about that place made him very wary. Nevertheless he came because he did not want to turn down an invitation. It turned out to be some sort of talent show. The sorority girls came up one or two at a time and performed their skits.

The final act was a magic show performed by Dakota. She did a few card tricks, poured water into glasses which made them change color, and made various objects disappear and reappear in unexpected places. Each trick seemed more impossible than the one before.

"For my next trick, I need a volunteer," Dakota announced. "Come right this way!"

Dakota was looking right at Brian when she said this which compelled him to come forward. On the floor was a big red X. Guessing that was where he needed to be, Brian walked over to the big red X and stepped on it.

As soon as he did, he was completely covered in confetti. The big red X had disappeared but that was the least surprising thing about his new situation. Brian had completely transformed into a girl. This caused her to go into shock, but the sorority girls thought something like this might happen and were prepared for it.

"I want you to just relax," commanded Dakota. "Put all your worries and cares aside and focus on the sound of my voice. Your name is Aria. You are a girl, you have always been a girl, and you are here to join the sorority. Most importantly, you want to join the sorority. You know my words are true. That is why you are here."

Aria, formerly Brian but never Brian, tried to understand what had happened but Dakota was not going to give her a chance to do it. Dakota raised her hand into the air. Simultaneously, Aria floated halfway to the ceiling.

The audience applauded. This made Aria feel really good. After a performance like that, she was certain she would get into the sorority. She had no idea how she was hovering in midair but she did not let that bother her. It was all part of the act.

Sometime after the show was over, Dakota told her she had been accepted into the sorority. She just smiled and nodded. It was just as she expected.
