Words Below:
Rowan was a student at Magic Academy. The class had learned disguise spells they could use to make themselves or others look different. The teacher warned them not to use that spell to impersonate someone else. They told get in big trouble with the non magical world. If that happened the magical world would not help them out because it was far too risky and because they deserved it.
Most of the students headed the warning, but not Rowan. He wanted to test the spell and see how well it worked. He opened a portal to a neighborhood some distance away from the school. Then he looked for someone he could copy. At that moment a girl about his age walked past. She would be ideal for his experiments.
With her image in mind, Rowan cast the spell and made himself look just like her. Her body had become just like hers so for all practical purposes she was female. Pleased with herself, Rowan walked around the neighborhood to see if anyone recognized her. She had some trouble walking because of her nerves but it was too late to back out. She wanted to know if her disguise actually worked.
Rowan heard a girl shout, "Hey. Ivy!" and knew that must be the name of the girl she had copied. She went over to her and had a conversation. As expected, she said some things she knew nothing about but she did her best to work around them. Despite acting a bit odd, Ivy's friend did not suspect anything.
It did not take long for Rowan to find someone else who knew Ivy. She had another conversation. With a few subtle questions she learned more about Ivy which she could use to her advantage in the next conversation. A few hours and many conversations later, Rowan had become quite good at impersonating Ivy.
Satisfied, Rowan decided it was time to change back. She cast the spell. It did not work. She cast it again. It still did not work.
Rowan started to panic. She remembered the teacher warning the magical community would not help her in situations like this. She would have to get a teacher to help her change back. They would probably find out what she had done but she saw no other way out of her situation.
With a growing feeling of anxiety, Rowan attempted to cast a portal back to Magic Academy only to discover she could not. Her anxiety had turned into fear. She suspected when she took the form of a non magical being she lost her magical powers. It would take time for the spell to wear off, if it wore off.
Her bad situation just got worse. Ivy had come back outside. She spotted Rowan wondering what was going on. All Rowan could do was run away.
