Casey loaded his virtual soccer game, or football as it was called in most other countries. It allowed him to experience a virtual world with many different people all over the world. Casey selected a random game. Because of this he ended up on a girls team. He just shrugged it off and selected the features he wanted for his avatar.

Before the game, he had a chance to interact with the other players on his team. He wondered whether or not they were girls in real life. When the game began, gender was the least of his concerns. His avatar was ready to play a game of virtual soccer but this was no ordinary game.

The first time his avatar kicked the ball, it hit a brick wall that suddenly appeared in the middle of the field and bounced back in his direction. One of his teammates tried to get the ball but stepped on a landmine. No actual pain was transferred back to the real world but the avatar found herself unable to move.

Casey was worried. They were down a player which made it easier for the other team to score. Several times their goalie blocked their shots but eventually one of them got through. They were behind 1 to 0. One of the players on the other team got hit by a missile which evened things up again.

Just when Casey thought he was making progress, a trap door opened up. His avatar entered a giant maze below the field with no obvious way of escape. Through trial and error, he ran down every possible path until he finally made it out. By that time each team scored a goal making the score 2 to 1. His return tipped the player balance in their favor.

Casey and his teammates made their way towards the goal. He carefully stepped over a tripwire which an opponent chasing him triggered. She started limping further increasing their advantage. One of his teammates scored tieing things up but time was running out. Once again, they made their way towards the goal as bombs dropped overhead. His teammate had the ball. She passed it to Casey. He shot and scored!

The score was 3 to 2 in their favor. All they had to do was hold them until time ran out. Another avatar on the other team got injured, then one of his teammates got hit by a bomb, and then Casey himself fell to a jet of flames. He had no idea they even had a jet of flames because he had not seen it before but they did. His avatar was out of the action. All he could do was watch.

The obstacles became tougher and tougher taking more and more players out of the game until only the goalies remained. Being on the team behind, the goalie on the other team knew she had to do something. She came out and attempted to score but time ran out on her. Casey's team had won.

Casey left the virtual world and tried to take it all in. He felt the game was too complicated. Something closer to real soccer would actually be preferred. As for the different gender, he considered that his own fault. Next time he wanted a random game he would make sure he was aware of the consequences.
