Description
I know it's a very popular subject, but I thought it would be more interesting if I made a picture where the subject is self mutilating himself through words...Every cut represents the pain that person is going through, the loathesome words they're repeating to themselves...

Thank you!!!
I was living through the phase where most teenagers were doing it and I had just started studying in depth literature and the true meaning behind the actions, so I suppose I should thank my lit teacher

You're right, I just looked it up... only 30% of American *women* self mutilate =S.
In the internation community where I grew up, I'd say the statistic would be 80%... I suppose i should hang out with the real world
Anyway, I'll change that error. Thank you

I know
Luckily, as people become more aware of it, they take better care of those who feel the necessity to do it.

I was gonna fav this on concept alone, but the picture is really good too. I like the first-person angle looking down. Makes it more personal. great job

I made a pic similar to this (I'm not the photography type though) because I've often written "Noli Me Tangere" across my wrist in substitute and tried to see how well I could hide it...kinda easy actually...
More into poetry but you should check out the pic and see if you can't deviate me a batter version of it! I'll use it as a title photo and deviate the peom that goes with it (Can't remember the title but it's probably in scraps, I send all my stuff there usually)
Btw, Noli Me Tangere means alot of things but it used to be one meaning
-Don't touch me, don't look at me, don't think about me, don't say my name...etc

I looked at your photograph, it's very interesting. Maybe you should have tried a different angle? I find, for this kind of shot, you need two people present. My little sister in my interpretation helped me out. You should take this again with a parent, sibling or friend.
Your idea is very original and the way you did it has a lot of potential! You just need to tweak it a bit

Wow, thanks, that seems like really good advice, problem is I don't have another person really to consider present, nobody knows about my poetry...lol. Well theres the exception of Whatawookie but he lives pretty far away now.

Hmm... You don't necessarily need to tell them about your poetry. Why don't you just ask a friend to help you make a photograph of a popular subject ?
That way, he/she wouldn't know about your poetry (which is, I'm only supposing, important to you) and you'd get your picture!

niiiiccee! A really great concept.. I think the only improvement that you could make on this shot is if it were cropped so that the writing on the arm is the central focus.. the tiles are quite bright and can be a little distracting, but hey... that's just my opinion since you are after an advanced critique. I really like what is actually being written on the arm - it is so honest.. holds nothing back. Again, an awesome concept.. so glad you chose to do it!

Yeah, I doubt the people who actually mutilate themselves would consider doing that instead.
But what they're doing is equivalent to what those words are saying.
Thanks for the comment!

very original. much better than just a bloody arm over a sink, which seems to be popping up everywhere.

Uggh, I know. I wish people would realise it isn't art and that it isn't cool to show off self mutilation.
Thank you for the comment!

I do not wish to assosciate with anybody who's into self-mutilation (and I don't mean mere scratches or cuts, but hacking the arms into the muscles, cutting off the genitals, or the like.).
It WAS of interest when Harry Potter was forced by the sadistic Umbridge to carve the sentence "I will not tell lies" into his hand with a magic pen. He showed the scars to the Minister of Magic to show that the ministry was suppressing the truth ! This man was later KILLED and Umbridge was put in Azkaban.
