Description
So this was the plan: I surprised Ree with tickets to this year’s LA Cos-Con, California’s biggest cosplay convention. (I’m sure it’s no surprise that Ree is a huge otaku and cosplayer.) I figured we’d head down for the weekend, have some nerdy girl bonding time, and then, when the moment seemed right, I would share my secret identity with her. I just hoped she’d forgive me for Triz finding out before her.The road trip was fun. We ate too much junk food and sang along with the radio when they weren’t gushing over the sudden arrival of a new superheroine on the scene who was claiming to be the actual Hercules from mythology (only now sporting some very female breasts that s/he had no problem displaying). “She-Hercules” had stopped the armored genius the Steel Legionnaire in downtown New Olympus and was an immediate sensation. S/he was even slated to appear on Late Night Dunk the first night of the convention. I figured I’d catch the highlights on the net the next morning because, even if I was a real deal superheroine myself, I remain a diehard fangirl of all my fellow do-gooders.
At the hotel, Ree and I got ready for the opening night. Ree had brought four full outfits for the weekend but started off “simple” with her spot-on Velma from “Scooby-Doo” while I had only packed my one cosplay look: Jeannie from the old ‘60s sitcom “I Dream of Jeannie.” It was maybe a little more revealing than I’m comfortable with (and that wig was a pain!), but I couldn’t resist the “hint” in the choice. And watching Ree’s jaw hit the floor was also fun!
