Foremost, this is an entry for the Mothers' Day contest at As Director of SOLDIER, I hope Lazard's mother counts (especially since Cloud's mother is specifically mentioned as acceptable.)

I had intended to do a portrait like this eventually, but there's nothing like a deadline to give you a push.

This is really quite frustrating, though - Squeenix tells you that Lazard has a mother - as opposed to leaving it at the 'everyone does' assumption - that she had an affair with Shinra Sr., but then tells you absolutely nothing about her. No official artwork nor concept sketch. No name, and to compound that, Lazard had forged his personnel files with a false name, so I highly doubt his mother's last name was Deusericus. Thanks a lot for clarifying these things, Squeenix. She's only pivotal to the reason Lazard wants to destroy the company. No big deal.

I tried to compare the artwork for Rufus and Shinra Sr., and screenshots of Lazard, and pinpoint some of the traits Lazard didn't have in common with either one. I think the broader jaw line and need for glasses had to have come from his mother, but the blond hair (albeit darker) and the light eyes came from Shinra Sr. I don't know why I settled on Lillianth as a name, other than it sounds vaguely French/Junon-esque (since Lazard is French and Deusericus is an alias.)

I haven't quite fleshed out a background for Lillianth, but she'd have to have been in some line of work that Shinra Sr. would have wanted to witness. For this portrait's purpose, a lounge singer would be believable; possibly even on the upper plate. But then, the lounge would've seen her as less attractive to patrons once she became pregnant and Shinra Sr. certainly lost interest, and without any means of supporting herself that suddenly, there was nowhere to go but the slums.
