Chose to play with a few memes here..

1) the fat cop.. this is such a familiar one that it hardly needs introduction.. but since I love drawing fat men, I just had to seize the opportunity to draw a fat cop!

2) the goof-off young cop.. again, a pretty common theme in cop movies and books, but I like the affable idiot's easy laugh, irrepressible grin, and ability to find humour in everything (no matter how grim).

3) the old-cop/young cop partner pair-up. One is 'Too old for this shit', the other one is making bone-headed newbie mistakes. They get on each others' nerves like a bad case of Shingles. Old cop thinks the young one is stupid, a risk-taker, and out to get them both killed. Young cop thinks his older partner is a humourless bore who has no life outside police procedure. A staple of Cop movies, and fun to draw.

4) public servants caught standing around doing nothing.. I drew these two gabbing on an otherwise empty street barricaded off by the older one's cruiser instead of in poses of dramatic action because just last week, an article hit the paper in a nearby city about a civil servant caught sleeping on the job, and a few weeks ago I read one about a number of police who'd been caught surfing porn at work. Civil servants slacking is one thing guaranteed to stir the self-righteousness of almost anyone... despite the fact that most of the people who are screaming the loudest to demand 'civil slackers' be fired are most often employees who slack off, surf porn on office pcs, constantly gab with buddies, take extra-long lunchbreaks, and catch catnaps at their desks.

So there's my reasons behind drawing this pic. But they all stand far behind the fact that I did it just for the excuse of drawing a really fat cop! I love a (fat) man in uniform! RAWR!
