I'm glad season 3 started! and I'm really excited about pinkie, scootaloo (best pony?) and trixie episodes, this is gonna be good.have a comic.

They have outright said that Derpy isn't going to get anymore substantial screen time with all the hell they got for the original airing of "The Last Roundup". So it is unfortunately a baseless rumor you heard.

This season is gonna be good! Of course, I'm assuming they're starting with a terrible episode to make the rest look MUCH better by comparison! And since they got the worst episode of the bunch out of the way already, it can't possibly get any worse!

But the bad guy was a piece of shit, they blabbed on about him for both episodes and showed him for like 30 seconds.

Sombra was more of a "Sauron" type villian. While he never interacted with our heros directly, his threat and presence were felt throughout both episodes. If he reached the castle it would have been game over for the Mane 6. If he did have the opertunity to meet them face-to-face, it would have ment he had already won.
He wasn't a bad villian, just different. It's really all just a matter of opinion.

One word: Discord. Twice the power half the fucks he gives and had ten times the screen-time Sombra did. At least Sauron had armies and allies this dude had smoke, uuhhhh intimidating.

One could argue Sombra didn't need armies or allies, he could take the empire all by himself.
In the case of Discord, he was the villian the story needed. He needed to turn the heros against each other and so he had to interact with them more. Also, while Discord may be more powerful he doesn't take advantage of it. He waists time making games and gloating which ultimately leads to his own downfall. Sombra doesn't play games. He knows what he wants and all his actions lead him towards that goal. And while Discord works in his story it doesn't mean a Discord type villian would work in every story.
This story required a force of nature more than a personality. I don't think the Lord of the Rings would have been improved if Sauron popped in every so often to say Frodo sucks and will never succeed. There is a time and a place for everything. This case called for a dark being of shadow that has the power to create fear and dispair within your very soul.
Is he without his flaws? Of course not! No character is. like I said before he's just different than what we've seen on the show before.

Celestia outright said at the beginning that he was reduced to nothing but shadow. I think the point of him was just to be foreboding; the idea that his very presence outside the city walls was enough to keep the entire kingdom in constant fear. He had enough strength left to mentally torment Twilight and every citizen of the crystal kingdom. A tiny, broken piece of his horn was enough to start taking over the city from the inside. If Spike hadn't helped Twilight snap out of her nightmare, the city would have been doomed for sure.
Sure, I wish there could have been more to him, and even a small battle between him and Twilight, Cadence, Shining Armor, etc. would have made for a much better episode.
But I'm with Thormack91 here. I don't think he was a bad villain; just different from the ones we've seen. In all honesty, I liked him more than Chrysalis. At least he had a backstory, while Chrysalis just came right out of buttfuck nowhere.

Isn't that basically Discord's backstory? He was an evil entity that got turned to stone for 1000 years. Whoop-de-doo. I like Nightmare Moon more than Discord.
And apparently you overlooked the part where I said I do wish more had happened in the episode. I'm just saying that I don't think he's the worst villain ever. I kinda have a thing for the "what could happen IF he managed to have his way" types of villains.

Anyone else think it was sort of weird when Celestia used Dark Magic to show the extend of what could happen to the Crystal Empire, I mean that raises some more interesting questions about her...btw I love the stain glass, bet she will have to fork out more bits to have that part replaced
