I know the old man is useless as fuck and the alien design is just shit, but to be fair the original dragon ball is great but I despised dragon ball z so much.

The old man used to be cool in the original Dragon Ball, blowing up the moon and going to the tournament as Jackie Chun. Then Radditz became the measuring stick and it was all downhill from there.

I totally agree on Yamcha, he use to be oneΒ awesomeΒ and one of the mostΒ beloved Dragon Ball characters, until DBZ ruin him, because of that, every Z fan makes fun of him.
So yeah to this day, I still don't like DBZ, the games are fine, but the show is honestly, is kind of boring in my opinion.
Fun Fact: Akira Toriyama didn't even want to make DBZ, he made it because his fans want to see another Dragon Ball,Β so thinking about it, DBZ popularity happen by accident.Β

Fun fact, according to Kanzenshuu, the very first arc was planned as the ending! Then Piccolo Daimao, then the Saiyans, and from there he got roped in by popularity. Also, the editor for those awesome original chapters and the Z ones are different. There's a different one starting the Saiyan Arc, then a new one when Cell becomes Perfect. It's probably a good reason for so much of the differences.
Worst part of DBZ is the Cell Arc. I could do a whole series on that. A Mary Sue shows up and kills Freeza instantly, derails Bulma's paring with, guess who, Yamcha to pair her up with one of the main villains (for comparison, this'd be like if Venom married Mary Jane instead of Spidey), rips off The Terminator because it was released the same year as it, gives us three main villains and none of them are any good, has everyone act like idiots to make the plot work, and throughout the whole thing turns those beloved original cast members into not-quite-literal window dressing. Seriously, HATE the Cell Arc.

Gosh, I never realize, theΒ Cell Arc have so much problem, aside from the original Dragon Ball characters treatment in the Cell Arc, what I hate about like you mention is Bulma is with Vegata now,Β rather then Yamche.(I'm going to be honest with you, I despise the Bulma and Vegeta paring, I personally think it's one of the ugliest parings ever made)

Honestly, if Toriyama was just going to not use the original cast at all after Freeza, he should've just kept them dead. Or better yet, USE THEM! I mean, look what happened to Chaozu! He got killed by Piccolo Daimao, then did absolutely nothing for the 23rd Tournament, and after he blew himself up, he wasn't even used as a measuring stick! Or Yajirobe; got one use after the 23rd Tournament, then did absolutely nothing else! Toriyama used to use his cast very well, like in the Red Ribbon Arc (which was absolutely amazing), but later on he just made up new characters and discarded the old. Like Puar and Oolong. Even Bulma got reduced to a Super Saiyan factory, and she's been around since literally the beginning!
Can't stand Vegeta and Bulma pairing. It's not really Tru Wub. It's a guy who killed billions of people and was proud of it having a one night stand with a woman with a girlfriend. And the logic behind it was that Yamcha was becoming a playboy? He's afraid of women except Bulma! That, and it's delivered from a Kid From The Future, a plot that's notorious for its infamy in FANFICTION!
'Nother thing I dislike about Z is its repetition. Goku gets incapacitated, everyone stalls for time, and when the situation looks grim, Goku shows up. This happens multiple times in the same arc. Freeza did it twice, Cell did it thrice, Buu did it twice, too. Admittedly, it was pretty cool in the Saiyan Arc, and the Buu Arc was actually an improvement, but I feel Z lost a lot of the magic of the original Dragon Ball and became a bit of a Fist of the North Star knockoff. But then, it was happening around Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3, so who can blame Toriyama?

The disturbing paring with Bulma and Vegata, the fact like almost every DB characters such as Cahozu and Bulma have a rough time in Z, the fact that Trunks says that Yamcha is a playboy which is easily disprove due to Yamcha fear of Women, you just example every mistake DBZ made.
Honestly it's safe to say that the original DB, was Toriyama's best work! after all, he wasn't even planning to continue the DB series.Β
