Created using a combination of alien technology recovered from the 1897 UFO crash in Aurora, Texas and Dr. Rapperschwyll 's pioneering work in mechanical intelligence, ADAM (Artificial Dynamically Adaptive Mind) was the world's first fully functional artificial intelligence. Encased in a powerful robot chassis, ADAM was field-tested alongside the superhuman test subjects of US super-soldier program Project Augment. Acting as a superhero, ADAM performed well and was even recruited for the superhero team the Circle of Liberty (Golden Age) until his evolving mind began developing a subconscious. Unlike his biological counterparts, ADAM's brain didn't possess a clear delineation between his conscious and subconscious minds. Unable to distinguish between the weird mental landscape of the subconscious and physical reality, ADAM had a psychotic break, went on a rampage, and killed Fireball . After a brutal battle with Guardsman , he was finally deactivated.
