I glanced around the barely crackling campfire, taking in the forms of my five companions. Hiro, our lone gunner, stood against a tree of the nearby forest, cursing quietly as he rested his head against it. Kri, the princess of this strange land I'd suddenly found myself in, was standing guard, leaning against a well used, worn naginata. Her cat ears and tail drooped in exhaustion as she regarded the slain bodies strewn across the night-time field. The mark of the royal guard adorned their armor and helmets. I glanced up, Lassic placing a comradely hand on my shoulder as he watched Kri, shaking his head. The hilt of a great claymore poked out from his right shoulder. Nodding, I stood up, glancing to the side. Twixy sat, leaning against a tree, staring listlessly up at the sky as she played with her cat tail. Her claws were still coated with fresh blood, but she didn't seem to notice. Walking to the lone river nearby, I spotted Leena to the side, slaking her thirst in the stream. Her claws had been bloodied, as well.

Three humans. Three giant catgirls. Could there have ever existed a more backwards team? I found myself wondering, staring down at my reflection in the clear water. Dirt and grime covered me-covered us all. I turned, looking at the remains of the cat folk guard and the human rebels. I could still hear the screams of neko and human alike, lives being taken by steel and by fang. A small whisper on the wind; Kri lamenting her fallen brethren, now turned against her. Lassic, his head bowed, spoke a few words for the slain humans. Twixy glanced at me; her expression betrayed her worry, so unlike the cheerfulness she would normally exhibit. Hiro bandaged the few wounds he had sustained, Leena watching quietly, somber. The constant battles are getting to us all... I shook myself from my contemplation, glancing at the last vestiges of sunlight as the sun fell past the horizon. I found my gaze drawn, irresistibly, to the katana sheathed at my side. So many lives have been lost. And for what? Why are the nekos so against Kri? I saw Hiro gesture at Leena. The pair ran into the forest, presumably to get wood for a campfire. A faint rasp sounded, Lassic stabbing his blade into the ground as he searched in his bag for supplies to cook. I felt more then heard Kri turn, stepping quietly into the forest as well.

What am I doing here? I'm just dragging everybody down... I heard a loud splash, Twixy dipping a large pot (Well, small to the giantess holding it.) into the river, walking over to Lassic. With nothing else to do I sat on the ground, pulling out my journal. I glanced to the side, a great castle far, far in the distance. Turning back to my journal, I started to write.

This just might be our last chance. We'll either succeed, or die. With what could likely be the last battle looming before us, it's no surprise we're feeling the stress. I paused in my writing, glancing up as Hiro and Leena both returned with seperate wood piles; one for the humans, the other for the giantesses. Lassic was looking up at Kri, evidently trying to cheer her up. I guess Kri doesn't like the feeling of killing her own kind. There was a faint scent of fruit as Kri returned, bearing several plants that she'd said were edible. It's hard to believe that at this same time, just two years ago, we were safe at home, just living our day to day lives. Me, Hiro and...Kou, we were the best of friends, just going to high school, like any other guy. Twixy had been chasing her dreams of becoming a clothing designer, in that same city. And Lassic...well, I don't think I ever asked what he was doing, now that I think about it. It just...didn't seem important at the time. I had to stop for a moment, my eyes going blurry. I hurried over to the campfire, munching on what seemed to be an apple as Lassic talked, trying to cheer everyone up. The four of us had just been ordinary people before we met. I never truly apologized to Lassic or Twixy for getting them involved. Shaking my head, I rejected the bowl of stew Lassic offered me, Twixy staying behind to keep watch as Kri and Leena went off to hunt.

I am leaving this journal behind in the hopes that, should the worst come to pass, everything that I... no, that we have done will not be completely in vain. This is our last chance. This...is Kri's story.
