Did you use XSI or any other 3D softwares along to render those abstract backgrounds like he does?
It produce a nice effect if you know how to render the shapes. :>
I tried it a few times before too in my artworks. Just curious, since we both share the same artists' influence.

Umm, no, I can't do 3D images, I still focus on my digital painting and cell-shading skill. (But, I'd love to learn it in the future).
For abstract background, I usually combine vector arts I create from Corel DRAW (or Adobe Illustrator), with painting I did on SAI and also Photoshop for finishing touch.

Cell-shading skills, eh? I'd love to practice that the next time I draw modern train-station related anime concept arts since the pictures from K-on fanart concepts that uses this style is really beautiful.
Corel DRAW eh...sounds like an interesting program. Might check it out when I got time. :>
And yeah, I use XSI and Autodesk 3D Max to render the abstracts sometimes, not all of them though. XP

Corel DRAW and Adobe Illustrator are similar, you can check out one of them.
Also, I heard about 3Ds MAX, a lot of people recommend it on the net.

While the XSI is the same software that Shiru-sensei used to render his background abstracts. :3
Mine's not really as complicated as his though, since my computer's low RAM limits me from rendering overly heavy polygons before rendering them in 2D. X__x
