Contest Prize (and My first ever full anthro picture) for ~Axe-Cell for his character Roslan the Tamaskan. This was a blast and proves that I'm going to have a lot of fun doing anthro. I mapped out the muscle placement on a skeleton (and got it redlined a bit) so the anatomy is right. Think of a handplant dodge swinging out horizontally.
So I guess Roslan is in a crazy cathedral in the midst of a gunfight. Roslan can summon various blades using runes (hence I added the runic pattern on the blade itself).
I know it isnt Sonic like in the ref, but this seems to really flush out the character in its entirety. I would rather have that over something lesser.
Enjoy, and expect more anthro of this level of quality to come. I'm getting the hang of it.

Everything here looks so vibrant and epic at the same time,from that stunning cathedral window in the background,to the ricocheting bullets,the stylish shading,shine and glow effects and the detailing on Roslan's armor,sword and his pose and expression just screams out AWESOME!! Can I say that this is BE-YOND what I had expected to receive from you as a prize?! By the gods' bounty... Even if the anthro style, pose and/or the zinging bullets (huh, singing...) weren't good enough (my apologies if I'd somehow offended you! That isn't one of my prepared outcomes), the CATHEDRAL in the background alone would've been the bomb of this picture! I feel so jelly right now just because of the wondrous window...
... Huh, I'd just realised that the cathedral windows in this picture are very resilient. Are they tempered glass or reinforced glass, may I ask? ;D
Ahem, regarding Roslan here, no longer the irresistible background, I can't stop staring at the notches and cracks on every piece of his light armour that is visible from this angle. They all appear to be screaming a story each at the viewer's eyes (or in this case, mine~), which all adds up to an even bigger story!! And that is not the end of their specialty. The shin- and armguards here are seriously fitting for a light-weight fighter like him, not to mention fancy, sturdy and easy to strap on/remove!! Oh how I love convenient equipments~
Dan, I'm sure that you'd already calculated my reaction when I saw this. Call me goofy for saying this, but, words alone can't express how this picture has left an impact on me. It's so wonderful to see that your art style is starting to grow from Sonic to anthro, and regardless of the style used, both of them are amazing in terms of effort, details and perspective. Keep up the great work, Dan, you can still soar higher than the clouds!!
Oh, and one last question before I end my comment here. May I have the blueprints for that awesome blade? XD *shot* jk jk~

(now that Im actually awake I can respond properly to this. I fell asleep before I saw this). The second sentence confuses me a bit. Because this was unexpected did you not like something about it? (slight wording confusion there). Anyway, i'm glad I could contribute and make his character more defined and maybe give you some ideas in the process. Since I used the ref you linked (which admittedly got me confuzzled) I decided to improvise as well as look up what the face of a Tamaskan looks like and actually copy the muzzle pattern (which worked YAY). I wanted to really give your character a visual impression that matched the good concept behind him. Hopefully thats what happened here.

I'll put the blame on my over-reactive response for causing such a confusion. It happens a lot of times. XD As I was saying, what I'm trying to tell you here is that "I didn't expect you to attempt an anthro picture for my contest prize, because anthro style is on the same level as the Sonic style on my favourites list~!" So... yeah, I can't stop being giddy and all after seeing my contest prize.
Oh right, the ref that I'd linked to you... I have to admit, it is very very outdated indeed. XD But no worries, sir, your interpretation improvisation of Roslan (and that awesome blade!!) here has given some ideas as to how he would look like once he hits adulthood (plus his anthro form!! *coughcough*). Since both I and you have done our research for the contest entry/prize respectively, I'd say it's fair, because that is what I've been hoping to achieve ever since I agreed to *daQUIET-1 's decision to join the contest. Don't worry, I will keep an eye out for that contest to come. ;D Who knows what boundaries I can break next year~

Haven't done one of these in a long time so I'm due here lol
First off, awesome work with your first anthro pic. Just by this pic alone I can tell that you're going to go far in the anthro world. I'll start off with the anatomy and body details. I think this is one of the few pics I've seen you go into detail with the fur and it really shows for it. It's a nice touch to have the fur pushing out of the armor on his arms as well as his legs. Also the cracks in the armor added in are another nice touch as it gives people a sense of how bad shit is goin down lol. The light reflecting off the armor also is another added touch. The body pose fits in well with the scene. You can already picture what Roslan might do next based on his pose right here. The scenery is fantastic especially the reflections in the floor and part of the windows. I like seeing some rain outside. It adds to the chaos of the inside scene as do the cracks on the windows. Now let's get on to the other part.
While the scenery is nicely drawn, it doesn't seem to line up with Roslan's body. With how his body is posed, I feel the window should be facing more towards the viewer instead of off to the right. It might just be my eyes buggin' but that's how I'm seeing it lol. For the reflection on the floor, not sure if it's water or not. If it is, I think you could have added a small ripple coming from Roslan's hand since it looks like his hand is in the water as well as a reflection of his hand. For the body, overall it is nicely drawn. I had to look up Tamaskan since I wasn't sure what they looked like exactly lol. The claws on his hand could use some work. It looks as if they are of all different sizes. His middle finger claw looks alright but the other two finger claws look bigger than the finger. The ears seem a tad big. I feel as if those look like they would belong more to a fennec. When drawing canine ears, you should try and picture them like your drawing hedgehog ears. You want to keep them relatively small. The eyes look too slanted. From what I've found for anthro eyes, people generally tend to give the character more anime like eyes. Granted this is an intense scene, I feel there could be a better design for the eyes in the scene. For the muzzle, I believe that looks great how you drew it. You did a nice job drawing the canine teeth. If you'd like to add more details next time, you could add some whiskers in.
Like I said before, excellent job mate. I truly believe you are going to make a great Sonic AND anthro artist. Keep on goin! \ o /

WALL COMMENT AHOY! well, thanks for a ton of the feedback since it has been a while since you've dropped me some. I do want to see if i can learn from the criticism that you left (which will be helpful in the future). The background was actually drawn independently from the character sketch (mostly because I had no idea what the BG was going to be in the sketch phase) and I came up with the cathedral idea spontaneously.
The ears do look big. This IS my first real try at anthro so bear with me as I was trying to get them above the poofeh hair, but hey, next time will be better right? I'm still learning the claws, eye position, muzzle, etc. This was a first try and based on the feedback here I will adapt and make changes for the next picture.

This looks amazing! How you managed to do that pose so well baffles me to no end, not to mention how well you did the head! Anthro heads aren't exactly easy, so I definitely give you props on that. I also doubt I will ever understand how you do textures and metallic shading so well. <33
