Description
Magik was always one of my favourite New Mutants characters, particularly when Arthur Adams drew her, and this piece owes a lot to his version.

Her story was that she was the mutant sister of Colossus, and she had the power to teleport. She was kidnapped as a child and raised in another dimension by a demon lord. When she came of age she defeated him and became ruler of the realm. The sword came with the position, and whenever she summoned it, part of her mystic armor would appear as well.

I loved the idea of this armor that we'd only ever see pieces of, always being teased with the whole. What bugged me, though, was that when they did show the whole suit, it was nothing special. I remember thinking, "That's what we were waiting for?"

So in this drawing I wanted to make the armor intriguing again... and, of course, draw a character I really like.

This image is black, white, grey, and red on yellow paper. It was all done with traditional tools (brushes, india ink, white gouache, grey Copics and Tombos, grey and white pencil crayons, and a red Sharpie) with light touch ups in Photoshop.
