Quincy's original sprites. On left, my first attempt at 16-bit style pixel art and on right, a more NES style sprite at 24x16px, I believe. I liked the one on the right more but still felt it didn't offer enough room to show detail so I went up to 32x32px but still adhered to the NES's 3 colors plus 1 transparency limitation.
