Rue is the embodiment of discarded emotions of countless discarded dreams, a sense of despair, woe, and regret that hides inside us.

The Cloy is a dark liquid that forms grasping hands when someone or something draws near it and weights it down

In my way of thinking I feel it's a representation of depression, having the main body oozing the black liquid while moving and spreading itself all over it's lair (which I feel should be a castle for part of the references say that the hands can be both an impediment and a tool to traverse the "level"
