Description The Pirate Clans are from the same conceptual universe that the Blackstars came from. Like them, the Clans were the descendants of refugees from an unspecified cataclysm, however, unlike others, they had not settled on any one world. Instead, they had adopted a nomadic lifestyle, swelling in ships and asteroid habitats.

Clacking any central leadership, the Pirate Clans were instead only a loose coalition bound by a rough code of conduct (Largely limited to staying out of each other's business) and trading links. Most of their hardware and technology was either salvaged and repurposed or recycled endlessly across the space of generations; their ships were oft generations-old patchwork messes that had been endlessly rebuilt and overhauled to the point that their original forms were largely lost. Several secretive factory sites existed, building low-tech craft for their fleets.

Their name was not a misnomer, however.  The Clans lived harsh, stark lives cooped up inside ancient ships and mining asteroids with little allowance for luxuries. To make up for this shortfall, they extensively raided ships, colonies habitats and whatever else they might find, taking whatever they could before retreating back to the uncharted depths that were their homes. The pirates were a persistent problem for all other (poorly defined) spaceborne civilizations, both from their raiding and the inability to locate their homes and root them out.

Most Pirate technology was primitive, simple and easily built and modified. Their fighting machines were either older designs that had undergone patchwork upgrades or clever combinations of existing technologies to produce crude but dangerous results. Aside from their own home-grown designs, they also would salvage other designs and modify them to their needs. The Pirates were masters of keeping obsolete tech (such as the Rocket Munky in use and viable long after their supposed obsolescence.
