Doctor Brand plans to save the species, saying "we were not meant to save the Earth; we were meant to leave it." His plans for space colonization include launching a gigantic space station by defying gravity, and sending embryos to other planets to restart humanity. It is later revealed that the scientists never thought the space station plan was viable.
A significant part of the movie has to do with deception and utilitarianism morality during crisis. Dr. Brand lies to allow humanity to continue, finding it unlikely that they would leave knowing Plan B is the main goal. Dr. Mann lies to prevent Cooper from leaving and preventing Plan B from working.
