Description
With a sigh, Rai leaned against the kitchen door frame with a warm mug of tea in hand as she looked out towards the night scenery. One might say something about a coastal villa being occupied by only one person, but Rai didn’t mind and took a small pleasure in the quiet solitude. A separate estate just a bit of distance from Whispering Blossoms, the villa was built and owned by Rai’s family and was positioned just by the coast overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
Taking a sip of tea, Rai basked in the warmth that contrasted the cool night breeze that wafted against her skin. The same breeze tickled her gills, a trait thanks in part to her yokai heritage. In public and among humans it was normally hidden just like her tattoos. But here in privacy, she could drop the veil that hid them. Her long and wavy hair was still a little damp from her shower earlier. Had she wanted to, she could have used her yokai-borne abilities to filter out the moisture from her hair and dry it immediately. Instead, she took the time to unwind and reflect after the events of the day.
Rai’s gaze drifted towards the view of New Luxerion. The lights of the city shone like fireflies against the night, casting a serene and warm glow. She recalled the words of Wakana and could not help but agree with the statement. There really was something oddly alluring about New Luxerion. It was a city that gave off the sense of a modern setting yet still had strong ties with the past. While it marched ever forwards like time, echoes and reverberations of ages gone by still remained.
It was as she watched the lights of New Luxerion that Rai’s thoughts drifted to her purpose of coming to this strangely tantalizing place. While it was true that she was tasked with rooting out and finding those who were involved in the coup that took her grandfather’s life, it was also a way for Rai to stretch out her own wings.
As the eldest daughter of Edelweiss and Haguro, there would always be the possibility that she would one day be called upon to shoulder the role of a leader. While she wouldn’t be holding that mantle for quite a while, heaven willing, the reach of her family’s influence was vast, and she could stand to learn by involving herself in the ventures and endeavors that were run and managed by the multiple businesses and corporations affiliated with her family. There were different possibilities, whether it be shadowing Wakana’s management of Whispering Blossoms or even something such as scouting potential business prospects and connections in New Luxerion.
The path before her was daunting, but at the same time, Rai could see the lessons that could be learned there. While she may have had some of the best tutors to teach her and prepare her for the day that she becomes part of managing her family’s affairs, there was still no surer teacher than actual experience itself. As Rai reflected upon her own thoughts, her sights returned to New Luxerion, and she found herself remembering her old teacher’s counsel.
“You should relax and unwind as well. I know you have your tasks to carry out, but while more information is being gathered to root out our adversaries, you should take some time for yourself as well.”
Why not do both? She would be in New Luxerion for an indefinite amount of time, so why not take the time to see and learn more of the city. A chance to unwind and at the same time, gather information herself, the idea’s appeal started to grow more on Rai. And as she drank the last of her tea, Rai resolved to do just that.
“Miu and Asuga can use the chance to do some sightseeing of their own as well. Shopping is definitely on the table with those two.” Rai chuckled to herself. “Perhaps I could look to see if I can learn more of New Luxerion itself, as well as its history. A book or two might be good as well, something to pass the time.”
Rai smiled at the idea and, casting one last look at the backdrop of New Luxerion, she turned and went back inside the villa, finally ready to turn in for the night.
