It automatically stops the timeline in which it was put in, until the whole movie is loaded and than continues with the movie normally...

not quite. If you've already made a Flash movie or animation, you can put this preloader in your Flash movie's first frame so that it will take less time to load.

It won't make your Flash movie for you; all it does is improve loading time.

I'm not sure of the specifics, but supposedly you export your Flash as a .swf file that can be uploaded onto DA. As for the separate Preview image, treat it as a sneak-preview/screenshot/thumbnail image of sorts for your .swf, probably a .jpg or .png (I think?).
