One of those pictures that make me stop and stare and wonder, what the hell is this about. My favourite part of it is this something up, in the middle. Because I can't tell what this is and keep seeing various things in it... castle... tree... human body... Awesome piece.

Another great work...albeit there is too much black along the top of the right figures dress...this and the large swath of red distract the eye too much from the whole composition...the crouching figure in the foreground is the sort of small detail that I love in drawings...one of those surprises that keeps you looking at a composition again the same way you might reread a good novel

thank you for such a great comparison, yea i know what you mean, there wasnt really much i could do with the black, well not at the moment, i will be re-scanning, that should sort it out, il just slip the rescanned inplace Thank you very much also

it is supposed to be puzzlin, but you could take it how you want it, i like how people pull out different meanings behind my work, even if i start out with just one, by the end of the day there are several. Thank you very much also

sometimes i have pieces that work out better, other times they are disasters compared to whats in my mind. eventually, with enough consentration, they go well

zerodeficit In reply to ??? [2006-09-10 12:40:32 +0000 UTC]

One thing I've noticed about your work is it's amazing consistency. Every piece is different, and beautiful, but the textures are all very familiar. They let you flow from one piece to the next, allowing them to tell a story.

How do you create that texture? Is it the paper? or the way you manipulate the graphite, pens, and inks themselves?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

devouredex In reply to zerodeficit [2006-09-12 00:28:28 +0000 UTC]

Alot of the times i overlap ink and graphite, when smoothen gently with a cotton swab, but before i do that i have to leave it to dry other wise the ink will smudge and ruin it.
Sometimes i tend to use a fine pencil like H, F as they give very fine yet very cool grains the more you build up the tones, this must be done slowly though as pressing too hard on a soft pencil like that can make the darker images less grainy and more metallic.
With reds, i tend to add the red first (usually), as when the red goes over, the pencils lines are removed and gives a very smooth consistancy. its best to practise with this to get it right, and make sure to gently blow away the loss grains before applying the red, otherwise the graphite will spread and ruin the image.
Yes, sometimes its just the paper, depending on what thickness i use, the thicker the paper i use, the more natural the textures are.
Thank you very much for the comment too

Fantastic, Devourdex---this piece seem a bit more surreal than your recent trilogy, would you agree?
I would point out how especially well you render the folds and drapes in the dress; the material hangs and drapes beautifully.
Consider yourself "FAVED"

devouredex In reply to Ricky-Roo302 [2006-09-12 00:29:36 +0000 UTC]

i think this one is more gothic than the trilogy, but at the same time a little more surreal. Thank you very much, and for the favourite
