It's been a few years since I last used dA!
So, backstory time. These past few years I've been going around using the pen-name Melody Ridge, followed by Melody Kyte. Then I had this epiphany earlier in the year that these names didn't have any real meaning to them and were not really all that signifcant to me, either. They were names that I had just slapped on as an alternative to using my real name back when I thought pseudonymity was cool. So I'm now back to using my handle Digi-rocker in tandem with my real name, Lizzie Parkes!
This drawing was something I originally did when I rebranded Melody Ridge under Melody Kyte. I used a reference image to draw the wings of a kite: a small bird of prey that can often be seen along motorways in England and Wales (and maybe Scotland?). I had grown up just down the road from a small patch of woodland called "Kite's Croft", which is why I had gone with that surname in the first place.
When I think back to the place I was in when I originally drew this, my artwork had become my escape from what seemed a very boring day-to-day life. When I look at this drawing now, I remember feeling that I was casting my inhibitions away, and getting ready for taking the next step out of my safety zone. Although I don't use the name Melody Kyte anymore, I still think kind of see this drawing as representative of the start of my adult life.
