Description

Ported to OBJ from the model created by Erwin Welker for Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator 2 (CFS2).  Preview picture ported in XNALara XPS.  NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.

The T-47 series destroyer, also known as the Surcouf class after its lead ship, was the first major post-World War II class of destroyers built for the French Navy, or Marine Nationale (FMN).  They began entering service in 1951, and twelve (12) were eventually built before they were succeeded in construction by the T-53 series.  They keyed off of the wartime Le Hardi and evoked the image of the old prewar contre torpilleurs in that they were larger and more heavily armed than most of their European contemporaries.  Initially designed primarily for the anti-aircraft role, three were later converted as flotilla flagships or leaders, four were later backfitted as guided missile destroyers, and five were refitted for the ASW role during their modernization refits at the end of the 1960s.  Three left service in the 1970s (including Surcouf, cut in two in 1971 due to an accidental ramming), and all of the rest save one were decommissioned due to age during the 1980s, as more and more ships of the newer Cassard and Georges Leygues class frigates came into service, with the last Surcouf (Du Chalya) decommissioned in 1991.  Due to the historical significance of the class in helping to rebuild the postwar navy, one (Maillé-Brézé) was saved as a museum ship and is preserved today at Nantes.  To find out more about the French T-47 or Surcouf class destroyers, follow the link below:

This is a straightforward port with no changes by me.  As with my port of Sylvain Parouty's Clemenceau this is a waterline model.  That's because anything below the waterline isn't required for use in CFS2.  If anyone wants to take this model and add the missing lower hull, propulsion bits, and rudder, I don't mind if Mr. Welker doesn't.  The same goes if any of you XPS artists want to take this and make a rigged version with rotating radars and gun directors, trainable guns, etc.  I don't mind if he doesn't.

This is not my model.  All I did was port it for you.  Please credit Erwin Welker if you use this in your own 3D projects.  You do not have to credit me for my OBJ port.
