Description

Ported to OBJ from the model by I_MUDD for the Starfleet Command (SFC) series of video games.  Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS.  NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.

This was I_MUDD's take on what a Federation command cruiser would look like in the late pre-TOS era, roughly around the time of the Baton Rouge generation -- although it's probably older than that per the hull registry number (CC-280) and was upgraded for it.  I'm not sure there.  He called it the Caracal class in his original release, but I'm going by the name on the model of USS Palomar in order to avoid confusion with the eariler Caracal class pre-TOS command cruisers created by Todd Guenther (fanon Starstation Aurora blueprint set from back in the day), which is probably better known to most of you classic Trek fans out there.  This is definitely not Guenther's Caracal, although I_MUDD definitely drew on that for both inspiration and certain ideas for this, and reminds me more of fellow Trek fan marian87's early TOS era USS Murak fanon design than anything else.  I'll give it points all the same for looking good and staying true to I_MUDD's unique pre-TOS look.  Anyhow, I'm throwing this into my pre-TOS mix here at Mandel's because some of you might be interested in it.  Perhaps it's something some of you might want to use in your own fanon pre-TOS projects -- or even recreate, or redo in modified form, or come up with your own take for another era, or revamp for NuTrek or for the Adamsverse, or whatever.  Have fun!

This is pure fanon.  What you do with it in your own threads of the Trek multiverse is up to you.

Live long and prosper.

NOTES - Here's a link to the "Vance's schematics" drawing of Guenther's Caracal, for those of you unfamiliar with it:

And here's a link to marian87's USS Murak for a better comparison:

UPDATE 2024/02/16 - This also compares well with Michael Morisette's old pre-TOS Almedia class starships:

ASIDE - Given Palomar's size and shape, I'm guessing that it's probably going to be fitted and operate more like a real dedicated command ship per current naval terms (ref USN Mount Whitney class or the World War II era Appalacian class amphibious force flagships) than a SFB/SFC style command cruiser, which is more like a World War II era capital ship class flagship variant (warship+basic C3 facilities).  That is, Palomar will have minimal weaponry and maximum C3 capabilities for fleet level operations.  You take it from there.  -_^
