Description

Back in 2019 I was very happy to receive official written permission from creator blood_wraith to port all of the recreated classic RE2 locations that he made for his RE2 Source Demo to the standard OBJ model format.  That way everyone who wanted to pose 3D digital art in these classic Resident Evil franchise locales could also use and enjoy them.  I quickly found out that he had only done the Game A locations, so I hunted down a couple of alternate sources for the Game B locations.  One of these was the RE2 joint recreation efforts by dukeblooders and arletis007, also on the Source engine, and the other was Roku's RE2 Campaign for Left 4 Dead 2.  Taking all of these sources into account, every single location from the original version of RE2 has been recreated on the Source engine, as well as a handful of places you could only see but never visit in the game.  I never could get in contact with dukeblooders, arletis007, or Roku, but they never objected when I ported from their efforts to fill in the gaps in my RE2 Source Collection recreation set -- and of course I always did my best to credit everyone involved for their work as appropriate.  I pulled my RE2 Source Collection set from the web at the same time as the public side of the RE3 REvisited project and for the same reasons; however, there's nothing to stop anyone else from doing the same if you're willing to put in the work and have a good grasp on extracting or ripping Source engine based sceneries.  The tools are out there, believe me.  In the meantime, please enjoy these old preview images from the set and I hope you'll take the time to play their recreations as well.  They're really good for what they are, and they're available for free from various Internet sites with a simple search of your favorite Internet search engine.

NOTES - Not entirely accurate externally but almost dead-on accurate internally, and a retail level effort all around.  Also far superior to roku's effort for his RE2 for L4D2 campaigns, even though he had done a more accurate one for his earlier RE1 for Half-Life 1 effort.  Dunno what happened there.  Oh, the engine is unmarked in the actual demo.  I added the side markings per the game visuals.  I also added the train wheel trucks from REDC, since there were none that I could see in the demo.

One of the things blood_wraith faithfully recreated is the total lack of any kind of engine inside this engine, if you know what I'm saying.  That's because this was originally an electric train, with the batteries in compartments under the floor and between the wheel trucks both in the engine and in each attached car.  That's why they talk about charging up the train in RE1.5, as well as having that big probe out of the wall and attach to the train's side right before the next-to-last boss fight.  This was changed to it being a diesel-driven train late in RE1.5's development and for RE2 retail but Capcom was under such a time crunch to get the game out (remember, it was already a year late) that they forgot to put some diesel engines inside the Escape Train engine to drive it.  This oversight was finally fixed with RE2 REmake decades later. (long laugh).
