This here was created with 3D Studio's native glow effect in Video Post.

The only problem is it just doesn't seem real. Or does it? I haven't a damn clue. I'm not in the habit of standing outside in a thunderstorm with an array of mirrors to see what lightning looks like when reflected off multiple surfaces.

I can think of one effect that would far surpass Glow, but I don't think it's remotely possible. The Lightning effect can not be converted into an editable mesh, so there's not a lot I can do with it. I may search for a tutorial on creating lightning without the plug-in. So the final lightning effect that I'll use is still completely unknown.
