Description
Cassowaries live in tropical rainforests mainly in New Guinea and marginally in Queensland. The three species share similar habitats, but avoid meeting each other, which is natural, because they do not inhabit the same altitude zones: the uni-carunculate cassowary lives in low altitude forests and humid savannahs, the cassowary at helmet at mid-altitude, and Bennet's cassowary in montane forest, up to 3000 m altitude. However, there are intersections between habitats, and no clear boundary; in areas where other species do not exist, Bennett's cassowary can descend to sea level. Since they feed on fruit all year round, they can only survive in large forests with a wide variety of species.
