Description
β¦If the Golden-Age Superman existed, he would have punched DC headquarters (The Building) and made the bosses pay Siegel and Shuster what they were owed and more.-Daniel Irizarri-Oquendo

I'm really enjoying this drawing.
It's funny how much cooler jumping Superman looks than flying Superman.
1938 Supes fought domestic violence, sought to end war, fought for the blue collar guy and the immigrant ... pretty hard hitting issues to tackle before going all soft and mainstream. Actually, it almost sounds as if I'm describing a Daredevil-era Frank Miller story ...

Interesting how much cooler jumping Superman looks than flying Superman.
1938 Superman spent a lot of time beating the tar out of wife beaters, stopping wars and making life a little more equal for the blue collar guy. Wonder how all of that would wash today??? Those are some pretty heavy issues, and make Supes sound a little more like a Daredevil-era Frank Miller character.

What's really funny is that Batman only became more popular when he was turned into the male Bella Swan (a self-insert proxy who can be the most rotten person around and yet be venerated for it and have everything handed to them on a silver platter). Back when he still had integrity as a character, he and Superman were pretty much equal. It's rather sad to think that Batman had to become a total Mary Sue in order to become DC's poster boy, whereas Superman staying true to his essence damned him to pop culture oblivion.
Oh, well, Superman's the better character regardless.

but see, i don't think he HAS stayed true to his essence. i think the essence of superman is one of brilliance, and i don't think more recent stories involving him have really shown that amazing hope in "the man of tomorrow" quite like they used to.

When has "The Man" ever given what is owed to the people "He" has done wrong? Superman still sucks, he did then and he does now, I wonder why that is?

One of comic doms ALL time chunks of dumb-assery! Hopefully the family wont get shanked on monies made from the new movie. I heard that they may only be remunerated for works containing "original" story elements. Such as Krypton, Jor El, Pa Kent, Smallville, Daily Planet, etc. I love this as a commentary on the Man of Steel and his place in 21st century America. I think the Golden Age tone of the piece carries over in the dialogue as well, D.

glad you dig it, man! I honestly don't think he's lost ALL of his cultural relevance in society, but i feel like he just isn't as important, and the fact that MOST of whats been written with him in the past 10 years has been mostly forgettable (with the exception of All-Star.) and the fact that a Superman movie hasn't really worked in 30 years doesn't really help either.
