This is really the kind of thing I post on Twitter (and I may start doing that from now on, instead of going through all this file conversion hell just to get DeviantArt to accept them...). But since MMMMINDSCAPE was born here, I thought I might at least do this once.

So last night I finally decided to stop tiling and spriting and start actually making things work. In this GIF you can see the first character cutscene with Pointer (using a generic dog sprite as a placeholder) and some of the first world map (including some unfinished portions ). The caped guy is also a placeholder, and what he says is a vague-yet-direct description of what the player will be doing in this first world.

There's a bit of a funny story about this: I spent 20 minutes trying to devise my own programming to make Pointer follow the player around the map, and after all of that, I finally remembered to use the command that adds him to the party (so he can fight with you) and discovered that RPG Maker already has 'following' programming inside of that. Big facepalm moment...
If you choose 'no way' when Pointer asks to come with you, he does another cutscene where he walks away all disappointed. XD I made that completely by accident (I forgot to increase his walking speed) but decided to keep it because it was so cute~.
By the way, I plan to have him respawn inside the main house, so you'll always have an opportunity to add him later if you want. I should put that on my to-do list...
Umbrellas are Imogen's signature weapon, and the Stupid Umbrella is the first one you receive in the story. Just FYI, since that might've sounded a little weird. ^^
This map is actually one of the generic ones in RPG Maker, just retiled to have an alien, almost fleshy appearance (the inside of the main house looks like it's made of meat, and it's delightful). Custom tiles are a bit much for me right now; maybe in a future game (or if M4 is well-received enough for a remake)...for now, I'm just gonna stick with using the default tiles in weird ways, like this.
