ink then colors in photoshop, done for master & servant contest on CGtalk.well, because many of you asked about the background story, actually there is one:
the background story was:
The big guy over there is Leonard (or just Leo), an alchemist of sorts.. the little fellow, Garrett, is a thief, a biginner of course, because he was cought by Leo while he was pickpocketing him.. Leonard had to do an importand travel far away, and as punishment for the little taffer he takes Garrett to carry his things while traveling the Coldplanes...

Nice. My only problem is a scale issue: the rocks look like mountains. Perhaps if they were more irregular it would be less of a problem.

I THOUGHT I had seen this before! I don't go to CG Talk much, more of a conceptart.org junkie. In fact, I've seen a lot of pics with this theme come up lately... Anyway! This really is a great finished piece; your pallette is very striking and I dig the smaller details such as the dream catcher webbing in the crook of hisi staff. I don't have much in the way of advanced critiques, but you have inspired me to start thinking about character design again.

It has a story to tell. And quite the story indeed. With an intricate past and more details than the mind can imagine. "I wonder..." says my mind, "of what will come and what has already come." The transition of future to past creates a tale. A story of old, to be told today.
I sit in eager amazement of what the story can tell. The past has a chance to teach us well, and lead us to inspiration for the future ahead. the future can always be changed, and the past will always remain. I'll learn the story well, so that I can make my own.

the coloriung, the detail i can actually feel the clothes theyre wearing just by looking at it

I love the textures in this - the little cracks and spots on his leather shirt and the kneepad/armour thing he's got on. Very very impressive. I can see why you got the DD! Bravo!

great depth and structure of the characters.. can tell what there characters are like because of the way uve contructed their poses and expressions

Really cool. It's like one of those stories where someone ends up alone and then they apprentice a master and have some great adventures. The old master looks like a big grizzly, but huggable like Santa

I hate to be a nitpicker. . . but where's the end of his staff? Shouldn't it be there showing behind his cloak on the left?
